• Nairobi City Stars head coach Nicholas Muyoti has revealed that he will be keen to sign new players in the upcoming transfer window.
  • According to him, the club will be looking to strengthen the defence and midfield departments.
  • Muyoti also explained how the departure of Samuel Kapen to Gor Mahia continues to hurt his team.

Nairobi City Stars head coach Nicholas Muyoti has divulged that he is seeking to recruit new players in the upcoming January transfer window to improve his squad.

Muyoti made the revelation after Sunday’s painful 2-1 defeat at the hands of former Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKFPL) champions Ulinzi Stars. His charges bottled a 1-0 lead to lose the match, conceding two set piece goals in the process.

According to Muyoti, he is not a happy man at the moment since his players have not lived up to the expectations he had placed on them.

“I am very disappointed because we signed the least number of players in the last transfer window and that means there is continuity. However, in terms of that continuity, as a coach I am very disappointed and it means I must go back to the drawing board and figure out who I will bring.

The players who can help take us forward because the ones that I have now have not been consistent. Our level of performance has dropped. This shows me that I must approach the upcoming transfer window keenly in order to get good players, who can help us,” he explained.

The club’s management only signed three players before the start of the 2024/2025 season and sold their main man Samuel Kapen to the defending champions Gor Mahia FC.

Focus on midfield and defence

The former Thika United head coach further identified the midfield as one of the areas that needs improvement since his side has not created enough goal scoring chances this season.

“First of all, I must look at my defence department and the midfield. Okay, I will look at the defence and the midfield because I know if I can get an excellent defense that can protect us from conceding goals and a midfield which can ensure there is enough supply to my strikers, I know I would have improved the squad,” he stated.

He went on to acknowledge that Gor Mahia’s acquisition of Kapen in the last transfer window has made it hard for them to assist or score goals.

Nairobi City Stars currently sit 14th in the standings with 16 points, two more than FC Talanta, who occupy one of the relegation spots.

Up next for them is a difficult fixture against league leaders KCB FC scheduled to be played on Saturday, January 4.
