FIFA President Gianni Infantino has expressed confidence in the ability of newly elected Football Kenya Federation (FKF) president Hussein Mohammed, alongside McDonald Mariga, to advance Kenyan sports.

Hussein and Mariga met Infantino in Marrakech, Morocco, during the Confederation of African Football (CAF) 2024 Awards on Monday night.

Infantino affirmed his support for Hussein as he embarks on his mission to develop Kenyan football.

“What a pleasure to meet the newly elected Football Kenya Federation President Hussein Mohammed in Marrakech,” Infantino shared on his Instagram post.

“I congratulated President Mohammed on his recent election and assured him of mine and FIFA’s support as he takes on his new challenge of building Kenyan football.

President Mohammed’s love of the game and experience in football administration will enable him and his team to bring the sport forward.”

He further added that, through collaboration between FIFA and the Football Kenya Federation, they will establish new technical centers in Machakos, primarily to support the growth of women’s football and foster football development both on and off the pitch.

“With plans for a new technical centre in Machakos and strong Football Kenya Federation participation in FIFA programmes, notably in women’s football, the desire and determination to progress on and off the pitch are clear in this football-loving country,” he continued.

In 2023, FKF partnered with the Machakos County Government to construct a Technical Center aimed at enhancing the federation’s football infrastructure.

Under this partnership, the county government leased 20 acres of land in Machakos to FKF for 33 years, with FKF committing $4.5 million from its FIFA Forward funds toward the project.

The center is set to feature one natural grass pitch, two artificial turf pitches, and an administration block equipped with offices and conference rooms.

FIFA and FKF are planning a technical centre in Kenya, a key step in strengthening the game. Excited about what lies ahead!” he wrote on his X handle.
