Tusker FC head coach Charles Okere

Tusker FC head coach Charles Okere has revealed the tactical adjustments that saw them get back to winning ways following a 2-1 win over Bidco United at the Dandora Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

The victory against Bidco United propelled the 12-time Kenyan top-flight champions closer to the top of the league with 24 points, now level with KCB who lead the standings courtesy of a superior goal difference.

With a game in hand, the Ruaraka-based Brewers could potentially claim the top spot and remain firmly in the title race.

Okere, 43, explained that their 4-1 loss to AFC Leopards served as a motivating factor. However, he noted that the task of bouncing back was not as psychologically or tactically easy as it may have appeared.

“Losing 4-1 to AFC Leopards was a source of motivation for us. Coming back to win 2-1 against Bidco United was not an easy task in terms of psychological and tactical preparation,” Okere told the club’s media team.

“We want to thank the players and the fans for their unwavering support. They gave us the morale to keep pushing until the final whistle, and we are happy to secure the three points.”

The former Harambee Starlets head coach further outlined the changes he made to the squad compared to their match against AFC Leopards. One significant adjustment was introducing fresh players to tackle the match with renewed energy.

“One of the key changes for us was tactical. Our players needed some freshness, so we had to bring in fresh players because we had back-to-back matches. The most important thing was to inject new energy into the game.” He added

Despite the win, Okere acknowledged that there is still work to be done, especially on the defensive front, where the team has conceded 18 goals in their 13 matches so far. He emphasized the need to tighten the backline to ensure more clean sheets moving forward.

“We have won, but again we have conceded. This, to me, is one of the priority areas that we will continue focusing on until we get it right.

We are not going to rest in our comfort zone, but we will work on our weak areas in terms of preventing goals. Once we get that right, we’ll be good to go.” He affirmed

He also praised Thomas Omole, who earned his first start, and Teddy Doks, who made his debut, for their commitment and hard work.

Okere commended both players for showing determination and a desire to win, having consistently impressed in training sessions. He expressed his willingness to continue supporting them, along with other players.

“I would rate Omole 9 out of 10. He’s shown that he is capable, and if he maintains his consistency, he will continue to get opportunities to play. Teddy, too, is a player we scouted along with Ryan Ogam in 2017, and I’m very happy with his performance.

The boys have worked extremely hard in training, and as we say, those who show commitment and a will to win will get their chances,” Okere concluded.

Tusker will travel to play Posta Rangers in their final match on Saturday, December 21, before the short break.
