Murang’a Seal staged an incredible comeback on Saturday evening to salvage a crucial point against defending league champions Gor Mahia following a 2-2 draw at the Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos.
Looking down and out by the half time break where they trailed 2-0, Abdallah Juma’s side spoilt K’Ogalo’s party as second half goals from Joe Waithira and a late Elly Saenyi strike took the win off Gor Mahia’s grasp.
K’Ogalo had looked in cruise control in the first half with Shariff Musa finding the back of the net after just seventeen minutes following a superb solo goal that saw the diminutive winger dribble his way past two Seal players before breaking the deadlock with a neat low finish past Morgan Ambuka in goal.
That would prove to be his meaningful action of the day as he was subbed off on the hour mark after sustaining an injury.
Bryson Wangai, who came in his stead, almost had an immediate impact two minutes after coming on as he squared an inch-perfect cross to Samuel Kapen, but the former Nairobi City Stars man failed to make the opportunity count in a chance that was easier to score than to miss.
His blushes were however spared ten minutes later when Musa Masika, who was drafted back into the squad after missing the City Stars game, headed in Enock Morrison’s free kick to ensure the 21-time Kenyan champions went into the break with a 2-0 lead.

Murang’a Seal show character
In the game of two halves, Murang’a Seal came out for the second period the much livelier of the two and showed increased appetite to get something out of the game.
Just seven minutes later, they reaped the benefits of their increased pressure as Joe Waithira was in the right place to punish a poor clearance from Gor Mahia goalkeeper Gad Mathew, the captain finding the back of the net with well-placed low shot.
While that goal should have been a warning sign, K’Ogalo still failed to utilize their fading opportunities and Alpha Onyango and Morrison missed two glorious chances to kill the game.
Those would come to haunt them as Saenyi pulled the rabbit out of the hole with a goal in the fourth minute of the five added after the ninety minutes as Seal rescued a point to share the spoils in the SportPesa Derby.
