Kenya’s decorated Olympic champion Faith Kipyegon is expected to receive an Honorary Doctorate in Education from the University of Eldoret (UOE) later next month.
The university nominated Kipyegon for the award following the milestones she has achieved in her inspiring career.
In a notice issued on Friday October 25, the UOE Vice-Chancellor highlighted some of the remarkable achievements that make the Kaptagat-based speedster a perfect candidate for the award.
“The University of Eldoret has nominated Ms. Faith Chepn’getich Kipyegon for the award of Honorary Doctorate in Education. Ms. Kipyegon is an accomplished middle and long distance runner and is the reigning 1500 meters and mile world record holder.

Her most notable feat was becoming the first athlete to be a three-time Olympic champion as she won three consecutive Olympic gold medals in the 1500m women’s race. During the 2023 season, Faith set world records in the 1500 meters and the mile within 49 days,” the statement read in part.
The good news comes four days after the 2024 Wanda Diamond League trophy winner was nominated for the female track athlete of the year award.
Kipyegon will become one of the few Kenyan sportsmen who have earned the honorary award in their careers in UOE’s 13th graduation ceremony scheduled to be held on November 21.

Her training mate Eliud Kipchoge is another big name in the Kenyan athletics industry who has earned the prestigious award in recent years.
Kipchoge received a Doctor of Humane Letters (Honoris Causa) from the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) during a colorful ceremony that was held at the institution’s main campus in December 2023.
The multiple Berlin Marathon champion was recognized for his outstanding humanitarian impact in the field of sports.
