Tusker FC suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat to Singida Black Stars at Nyayo National Stadium on Sunday, leaving the Brewers with work to do in the second leg of their CAF Confederation Cup second preliminary round tie.

The result gives the Tanzanian side a slender advantage heading into the return fixture, with Tusker now needing to overturn the deficit in Tanzania to keep their hopes of reaching the Confederation Cup group stage alive.

The first real action of the match saw Singida right-back Koffi Ande receive a yellow card.

Tusker produced the first meaningful attacking opportunity in the 13th minute after a clever move involving Alvin Mang’eni, who delivered a neat pass into the box. Victor Mbaoma dummied the ball, allowing Ian Simiyu to strike a low effort, but Singida goalkeeper Yona Amos was equal to it.

The visitors remained organised as the first half progressed, with Tusker struggling to turn their possession into clear-cut opportunities.

Tusker winger Abdoulie Joof was booked in first-half stoppage time, providing the final major action before the interval.

Singida returned from the break with greater intensity and took the lead just five minutes into the second half, with two substitutes combining for the opener.

Ahmed Pipino produced a wonderful switch of play from right to left to finding Jeancy Mboma, who cut inside and struck a left-footed effort that caught Tusker goalkeeper Perrauld Ndinga off his line, finding the near post to give the visitors a 1-0 lead.

Singida almost doubled their advantage ten minutes later following an error from Fabian Adikiny.

Mboma found Henry David inside the area, but the forward was denied by a spectacular close-range save from Ndinga, who kept Tusker in the contest.

The home side immediately had an opportunity to restore parity, but Victor Mbaoma was unable to convert a one-on-one chance from close range, losing possession in the process.

Seconds later, Tusker came close again from a set-piece, with Abud Omar sending his effort narrowly wide of the target.

Despite pushing for an equaliser, Tusker could not find a way past Amos as Singida held on for a valuable away victory.

The Brewers will be disappointed not to have taken advantage of their home ground, particularly after creating opportunities in both halves, but the one-goal deficit means the tie remains open.

The second leg will be played on Sunday, October 25, 2026, in Tanzania, with the aggregate winner advancing to the CAF Confederation Cup group stage.
