Safari 7s 2026

Kenya’s 7s sides, Shujaa and Kenya Morans, booked their places in the 2026 Safari 7s Main Cup quarterfinals with unbeaten runs in their respective group-stage fixtures played on Friday and Saturday at Nyayo National Stadium.

Shujaa bounced back from Friday’s 21-21 draw against South Africa’s SportPesa Fast Forward 7s in their Group A opener to claim two victories on Saturday, dismantling Scotland 22-0 in their second match.

In their third and final pool fixture, they faced noisy neighbours Uganda 7s, whom they convincingly dispatched 21-5.

Uganda actually took the lead in the clash, which wrapped up Day Two, after pinning Kevin Wambua’s charges in their own 22.

With Nigel Amaitsa sent to the sin bin for an infringement, Uganda seized control, and Aaron Tukei dotted down for an unconverted try.

However, just before the break, Shujaa reclaimed the lead when Gabriel Ayimba collected a slick offload from Victor Mola, outfoxed the Ugandan defence and grounded the ball between the posts, with Rayvon Ambale adding the extras.

Uganda managed put up a spirited defensive effort, denying Kenya room to dominate in their territory.

However, Elvis Olukusi, operating on the left wing, delivered a superb pass to Ayimba, who finished in the corner to extend Kenya’s advantage by five points. Ambale duly converted.

Glacious Owino then sent the stadium into a frenzy with a brilliant tap-and-go, surging through the defensive line and racing between the posts to secure a converted try and ensure Shujaa sailed into the quarterfinals in style.

Kenya Morans mirrored Shujaa’s exploits with two wins and a draw.

Having thumped GEL Squad 38-17 on Friday, they carried that momentum into Saturday morning to thrash Wonder 7s 40-12, keeping their unbeaten streak intact.

But their quest for a perfect group record ended when Zimbabwe Sables held them to a 12-12 draw in their final Group C fixture.

Both sides now set their sights on Sunday’s cup quarterfinals, aiming to go further, where they’ll be joined by Shogun Rugby, Wonder 7s, SportPesa Fast Forward 7s, French Renegades and Wellington Jaguars all eight chasing a semifinal ticket.
