Kenya Lionesses, Uganda Lady Cranes maintain unbeaten 2026 Safari 7s runs

Kenya Lionesses and Uganda Lady Cranes continued their impressive starts at the 2026 Safari 7s after recording their third consecutive victories at Nyayo National Stadium on Saturday.

The Lionesses survived a late fightback from Tunisia to claim a narrow 19-17 victory, while Uganda comfortably defeated the Junior Lionesses 24-7 to preserve their perfect record in the women’s competition.

Kenya came into the Tunisia encounter seeking to extend their winning streak against a side that had also won its opening two matches. The contest lived up to expectations, with both teams showing determination in a closely fought battle.

Debutant Tracy Montext opened the scoring for the Lionesses after receiving an offload from Marvel Oswago. Tunisia responded through Fatma, who crossed for a converted try to level the scores at 7-7.

Sheila Chajira restored Kenya’s advantage shortly before the break after receiving an offload from Sinaida Mokaya. Tunisia struck again before half-time, ensuring the teams remained evenly matched.

Elizabeth Catherine then powered over for another try to put Kenya in front, but Tunisia continued to threaten and managed to cut the deficit to two points.

The Lionesses held their nerve in the closing moments to secure a hard-fought 19-17 win, maintaining their unbeaten start to the tournament.

Uganda Lady Cranes maintain perfect record

Uganda Lady Cranes also recorded their third straight victory after overcoming the Junior Lionesses 24-7.

The Junior Lionesses made a bright start when Rose Okwemba collected an offload before racing over for the opening try to establish a 7-0 lead.

Uganda responded with an unconverted try before Grace Auma crossed the line to give the Lady Cranes a 10-7 advantage at half-time.

The Ugandans returned from the break with greater intensity, and Gertrude Kateesa extended their lead to 17-7. Rachael Mufuwa added another try to seal a convincing 24-7 victory.

The result strengthened Uganda’s position among the leading contenders as they continued their impressive run in Nairobi.

Kenya Shibli end losing streak

Elsewhere, Kenya Shibli registered their first win of the tournament after beating TUK Women 17-7, recovering from two painful defeats in their opening matches.

Mary Chikombe broke the deadlock for Shibli before Deleon Indombo added another try to give her side a 12-0 lead at the break.

TUK Women responded with a converted try in the second half, but Sharon Iminza settled the contest after collecting a kick and racing over the line to complete the 17-7 victory.

Shibli’s win offered a timely boost after their last-minute losses against Tunisia and Uganda.

With three victories apiece, Kenya Lionesses and Uganda Lady Cranes remain unbeaten in the women’s competition, setting up an intriguing contest as the 2026 Safari 7s continues at Nyayo National Stadium.
