Cameroon vs Comoros AFCON qualifier prediction: Match preview, key stats & h2h

Cameroon get their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualification underway with a match against Comoros on Thursday night. 

The Indomitable Lions are favorites to finish top in Group G, despite a resilient Congo side to get past. Namibia are the other nation in the Group. 

Cameroon, who are five-time AFCON winners, come into the match as favorites with home advantage but will need to sleep their calm to get all three points against their opponents. 

The hosts are currently ranked 43rd in the world, while Comoros come into the qualifiers in 108th place. 

Both teams come into the game under new management as David Pagou takes charge of the Indomitable Lions, while Hubert Velud comes in as the new Comoros boss.

Plenty of the big usual names were left out of the Cameroon squad by the new head coach with the likes of Amadou Onana, Vincent Aboubakar and Eric Choupo-Moting left out. 

The other notable absentee is Carlos Baleba who is ruled out through injury. 

Manchester United’s Bryan Mbeumo will be an integral part of the starting XI for the hosts. 

Bayer Leverkusen forward Christian Kofane is also fit and will start to lead the attacking line for the home team. 

Comoros Coach Velud has also made some notable changes to his squad, leaving out experienced Captain Youssouf Mchangama and Faiz Selemani.  

These sides have only ever faced each other three times in competitive football with Cameroon having the upper hand. They have won twice and drawn once. 

The last time they met was in the 2022 AFCON round of 16 and Cameroon came out 2-1 winners.
