Kabras Sugar cut KCB Rugby’s lead at the top of the 2026 SportPesa National Sevens Circuit standings to just three points following a statement-making victory at the Driftwood 7s on Sunday, August 23.
The Western Kenya giants blew the title race wide open at the Mombasa Sports Club, mounting a second-half comeback to overcome their fiercest rivals 15-5 in the Main Cup final.
The Bankers appeared on track to extend their dominance early on, establishing a 5-0 lead heading into halftime after Festus Shiasi touched down a loose ball in the corner just before the interval.
However, the Sugarmen produced a response in the second period, turning the final on its head through a quickfire double from winger Griffin Chao alongside a powerful try from national team forward Kevin Wekesa to seal their second circuit victory of the campaign adding to their Dala 7s title in Kisumu.

SportPesa 7s overall standings after Driftwood 7s
The maximum 22 points collected by Kabras in Mombasa lifts them to 73 overall points bridging what was previously a six-point cushion held by KCB entering the fourth leg.
KCB, who came into the weekend boasting two tournament wins this season at the season-opening Prinsloo 7s and Kabeberi 7s, navigated tight knockout battles against Nondescripts and Menengai Oilers to reach the final. They settled for 19 points as runners-up to retain the summit on 76 points.
Behind the top two, Menengai Oilers leapfrogged Kenya Harlequin into third place on the overall log with 58 points despite dropping a 21-5 third-place playoff to a soaring Daystar Falcons side.
The Nakuru-based Oilers are still searching for their first tournament title of the season after runner-up finish at Dala 7s, a third-place finish at Kabeberi, and fourth-place runs at Prinsloo and Driftwood.
Daystar’s impressive bronze performance in Mombasa elevated them into a tie for fourth place alongside Kenya Harlequin on 52 points, after Quins managed only eight points from a ninth-place finish.
Meanwhile, Mwamba RFC sit sixth on 45 points after bagging 10 points in Mombasa, while Strathmore Leos and Nondescripts are locked in a tie for seventh on 41 points. Lower down the standings, KU Blak Blad occupy ninth on 35 points, followed by MMUST on 27 points and Nakuru RFC rounding out the upper log on 25 points.
With four legs down and two remaining, the caravan takes a short breather before heading to the Embu Sevens on September 5-6 in what promises to be a thrilling push toward the season finale at Christie Sevens.
