The 2026 SportPesa National Sevens Circuit returned on Saturday morning for the third leg, the Kabeberi 7s, at the RFUEA Grounds after a two-week break.
The opening round of this leg did not produce many major upsets, as the big guns kicked off on a high note.
Defending champions KCB Rugby escaped a scare from Nakuru RFC, while current Circuit leaders Kabras Sugar beat MMUST 29-7.

Meanwhile, Menengai Oilers, fresh from the finals of the Dala 7s a fortnight ago, got off to a perfect start with a win over Kenyatta University’s Blak Blad.
Kenya Harlequins thumped Kisumu RFC 36-7, while Strathmore Leos were also impressive, securing a 33-15 victory over Catholic Monks.
In an entertaining encounter, hosts Mwamba RFC staged a comeback to beat Nondies 22-21, while Zetech Oaks managed to overcome Mombasa RFC.
In the Group of Death, Group D, the first match saw Wanyore have the upper hand as they started by pinning the Bankers in their own 22.
They fancied a good chances of taking the lead, but just before halftime, KCB punished them with a try from Floyd Wanyore on the left wing. He proved too elusive for Nakuru’s defence, giving his side a 7-0 lead after the successful conversion.
In the second half, KCB started slowly, but they would get their chance on the right, where Wabwire managed to offload to Mike Wekesa.
With Nakuru’s defence stretched thin, Wekesa surged through to extend KCB’s lead to 14-0, with Brian Wahinya adding the conversion.
Wanyore will definitely rue the chances they missed in the first half, as KCB managed to make amends for their mistakes in the opening seven minutes.
Dominic Sande then sealed the victory with a try, which was converted, while Samuel Asati added another converted try to give KCB a convincing 28-0 win.
Meanwhile in the second match of this group, a minute into the game, Kabras Sugar were off the mark.
From the lineout, they took the lead after Derick Ashihundu spotted space on the left wing and burst through between the posts to make it 7-0, with Eric Cantona adding the conversion.
Kabras continued to dominate, extending their advantage minutes later after Kevin Wekesa’s unconverted try gave them a 12-0 lead.
Their first-half dominance was capped off by Ashihundu grabbing his second try as they went into the break with a 17-0 advantage.
Desmond Kirwa reduced the deficit for MMUST in the second half, with Flavian Otiyo converting. However, they were caught napping in the final minutes, with Jone Kubu getting onto the scoresheet before James Olela sealed the victory in a 29-7 win.
The second round will kick off at 11:20am.
