Kenya’s national Lightweight champ, Javan Buyu, is the new Universal Boxing Organization (UBO) Intercontinental Lightweight champion after defeating Tanzania’s Ramadhan Idd on Saturday in a thrilling SportPesa Boxing Night staged at the Edge Convention Centre in Nairobi.
Buyu and Idd started cautiously, with both fighters controlling the opening round of the scheduled 10-round contest.
The pair matched each other jab for jab in the first round before Buyu took charge in the second. He employed smart body shots that gradually wore his opponent down and left Idd struggling to catch his breath.

The crowd craved more action, but Buyu delivered crisp, rapid jabs to the midsection, ensuring Idd had little room to score.
He kept hammering away at the lower side, eventually dropping the Tanzanian to the canvas.
Idd stayed down as Buyu secured his fifth career knockout and extended his winning streak to eight straight victories, clinching the UBO intercontinental title with a knockout just two minutes into the third round.
“I was prepared for my opponent. I did exactly what I had trained for over the past few weeks. In the first round, Maurice told me to study my opponent and give him time to get tired. I did that, although the fight didn’t go as many rounds as we expected. I kept attacking the body, and I managed to knock him down,” Javan told SportPesa News after his historic victory.
Winning the UBO title for the first time, Buyu stretched his winning streak to eight fights since making his professional debut in 2024 after transitioning from mixed martial arts (MMA).
Now with five knockouts to his name, the 29-year-old continues to build an impressive trophy cabinet.
He won the Kenya National Lightweight title in October 2025 before claiming the Pugilist Syndicate of Tanzania (PST) title during the inaugural SportPesa Boxing Night in April.
“I want to thank UFS BXNG under Maurice and SportPesa Boxing for this opportunity. My journey with Maurice goes back many years. He saw something in me and believed in my potential. Eight years later, I have won titles under his coaching, and now I have three championships to my name. I’m grateful to everyone who has supported me,” he added.
For Idd, the defeat marked only the second loss of his professional career, leaving him with nine victories from 11 fights.
The fight headlined the second edition of the 2026 SportPesa Boxing Night in Nairobi, promoted by Maurice Odera under UFS BXNG and sponsored by leading gaming firm SportPesa.
The event featured 10 additional bouts, with boxers from Ethiopia, Uganda, Tanzania, DR Congo, Morocco, and Kenya entertaining fans throughout the evening.
The co-main event saw Uganda’s Catherine Nanziri face Tanzania’s Husna Said for the vacant Pugilist Syndicate of Tanzania (PST) Lightweight title.
Nanziri secured victory with a first-round technical knockout after just one minute to claim the belt.
It was her fifth professional title, adding to her Ugandan National, East and Central Africa, and Africa Boxing Union (ABU) Lightweight championships.
