Reigning Kenya Cup champions Kabras Sugar RFC have unveiled a strong 13-man squad for the Prinsloo 7s, with Brian Mutua set to captain the side as they begin their quest for 2026 SportPesa National Sevens Circuit glory.
The SportPesa 7s gets underway today at the Nakuru Athletic Club, with the Prinsloo 7s serving as the opening leg of the six-tournament series.
Kabras arrive in Nakuru among the favourites after another impressive 15-a-side campaign and will be hoping to carry that momentum into the shortened version of the game.

Captain Mutua leads a squad that blends experienced campaigners with exciting young talent as Kabras continue their search for a first overall National Sevens Circuit title since 2017.
The Kakamega-based side has consistently been among the top contenders in recent years but has fallen short of reclaiming the sevens crown.
The squad features Patrick Lumumba, Kenya Simbas winger Derrick Ashihundu, Roy Maruti, Jackson Sketta, and Rayvon Ambale, giving the coaching staff lead by Carlos Katywa alongside Ntabeni Dukisa – a wealth of pace, power and versatility ahead of the opening tournament.
Also making the travelling squad are Mathias Osimbo, Fredrick Wangila, Andrew Wangila, Griffin Chao, Michael Lukusi, Adrian Khwesa and Eric Cantona, completing a well-balanced side capable of challenging for the title.
Kabras have been drawn in a highly competitive Pool A alongside Mwamba RFC, Kenya Harlequins, and Embu RFC.
Their campaign begins against Mwamba RFC at 8:20 a.m., before facing Embu RFC at 11:40 a.m. The Kenya Cup champions will conclude their pool-stage fixtures with a mouthwatering clash against Kenya Harlequins at 4:00 p.m.
Pool A is expected to be one of the toughest groups in the competition, with record Prinsloo 7s champions Mwamba RFC eager to rediscover their winning touch, while Kenya Harlequins will be looking to bounce back after a disappointing campaign despite lifting the overall National Sevens Circuit title in 2024.

Kabras themselves will be keen to improve on last year’s performance after finishing seventh at the Prinsloo 7s, a result that fell below the club’s expectations. The opening leg presents an opportunity for the Sugarmen to make an early statement as they chase valuable circuit points.
This year’s tournament has attracted Kenya’s leading rugby clubs, including defending National Sevens Circuit champions KCB Rugby, defending Prinsloo 7s champions Strathmore Leos, hosts Nakuru RFC, Menengai Oilers, Impala RFC, Nondescripts RFC, CUEA Monks, Daystar Falcons, MMUST, KU Blak Blad, NYS Spades, Kisumu RFC, Mwamba RFC, Kenya Harlequins, and Embu RFC.
With the National Sevens Circuit officially getting underway in Nakuru, Kabras Sugar will be determined to begin their campaign on a winning note.
Led by coach Katywa and boasting a squad packed with quality and experience, the Sugarmen will be aiming to end their long wait for sevens success and position themselves as genuine contenders for the 2026 overall circuit title.
