Bosnia and Herzegovina and Qatar meet in a decisive Group B clash at Seattle Stadium, with both nations fighting to keep their FIFA World Cup 2026 knockout hopes alive after disappointing results on Matchday 2.

The two sides head into the encounter level on one point apiece. Bosnia and Herzegovina suffered a heavy 4-1 defeat to Switzerland, while Qatar endured a humiliating 6-0 loss against co-hosts Canada.

With Canada and Switzerland occupying the top two spots in the group, anything less than victory could effectively end either side’s hopes of reaching the Round of 32.

Bosnia and Herzegovina started their campaign with a hard-fought 1-1 draw against Canada before being exposed by Switzerland in their second outing.

Sergej Barbarez’s side competed well for long periods but struggled to cope with Switzerland’s intensity in the closing stages. Their task is further complicated by the suspension of defender Tarik Muharemović following his red card.

Despite their recent setback, Bosnia still possess plenty of experience and quality. Veteran striker and captain Edin Džeko remains the focal point of their attack, while Sead Kolašinac and Amar Dedić provide leadership and stability in defence.

The Dragons know that three points would significantly boost their chances of progressing as either a top-two side or one of the best third-placed teams.

Qatar, meanwhile, are still searching for their first World Cup victory of the tournament. After earning an impressive 1-1 draw against Switzerland in their opener, the Maroons collapsed against Canada, conceding six goals and finishing the match with nine men following red cards to Homam Ahmed and Assim Madibo.

Julen Lopetegui’s side must quickly recover both mentally and tactically. The Asian side will once again look to their talisman Akram Afif to provide creativity and attacking inspiration, while experienced forwards will be expected to carry the goalscoring burden in what is essentially a must-win fixture.

With both teams desperate for maximum points, an open and competitive contest is expected in Seattle.

What time does Bosnia and Herzegovina vs Qatar start?

Bosnia and Herzegovina vs Qatar team news

Bosnia and Herzegovina will be without suspended defender Tarik Muharemović following his dismissal against Switzerland. His absence is likely to see Sead Kolašinac partner Nikola Katić in central defence.

Captain Edin Džeko is expected to lead the line once again, supported by Ermedin Demirović and promising winger Kerim Alajbegović. Midfielders Benjamin Tahirović and Ivan Šunjić are likely to retain their places as Bosnia seek greater control in the middle of the park.

Qatar also have suspension concerns after Homam Ahmed and Assim Madibo were sent off during the defeat to Canada. Their absences force Julen Lopetegui into changes at both the back and in midfield.

Akram Afif remains Qatar’s biggest attacking threat and will be tasked with leading counter-attacks, while experienced forwards are expected to shoulder the responsibility of finding the goals required to keep their campaign alive.

Bosnia and Herzegovina vs Qatar head-to-head and current form

The two nations have met only once previously, drawing 1-1 in an international friendly back in 2010. As a result, there is very little historical rivalry between the sides heading into this World Cup encounter.

Bosnia and Herzegovina have struggled for consistency in recent matches, recording one win, three draws and one defeat in their last five outings before the Switzerland loss.

However, they have shown resilience against quality opposition, earning draws against Canada, Panama and North Macedonia.

Qatar’s recent form has been less encouraging. They have managed just one win in their last several competitive matches and have scored very few goals during that period.

Their defensive vulnerabilities were brutally exposed by Canada, who found the net six times on Matchday Two.

Bosnia and Herzegovina vs Qatar prediction and betting tips

This match has all the ingredients of a tense and cagey affair, with both teams aware that defeat would almost certainly end their World Cup journey.

Bosnia and Herzegovina appear to have the stronger squad on paper, particularly in attacking areas where Edin Džeko’s experience and hold-up play could prove decisive. Their ability to create chances through wide areas and set-piece situations should also give Qatar problems.

Qatar will likely adopt a compact defensive structure and look to exploit transitions through Akram Afif’s pace and creativity.

However, the suspensions of key players and the psychological impact of their heavy defeat to Canada could leave them vulnerable against a Bosnia side that possesses greater physicality and tournament experience.

While Qatar are capable of causing problems on the counterattack, Bosnia and Herzegovina’s superior quality in both boxes should ultimately make the difference.
