Poland will play their final match as they continue to prepare for the Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup with a friendly against Chile.

Poland and Nigeria will lock horns in an international friendly at the PGE Narodowy in Warsaw on Wednesday evening, with both nations looking to restore pride after narrowly missing out on qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The White-Reds arrive at this fixture still hurting from their playoff heartbreak against Sweden, while the Super Eagles are equally frustrated after their World Cup dream was ended by DR Congo in a dramatic CAF playoff showdown.

For Poland, this match presents an opportunity to halt a worrying slide in form. Jan Urban’s men have suffered back-to-back defeats, including a disappointing 2-0 loss to Ukraine in their most recent outing. Defensive frailties have become a concern, with the hosts failing to keep a clean sheet in each of their last five matches.

Their World Cup qualification campaign ended in painful fashion when Viktor Gyokeres struck late to hand Sweden a dramatic 3-2 playoff victory. Since then, Poland have struggled to regain momentum, and another defeat would mark their third consecutive loss for the first time in more than three years.

Despite those setbacks, the White-Reds can draw confidence from their strong home record and the presence of experienced players capable of turning matches in an instant. Playing in front of their supporters in Warsaw could provide the perfect platform to bounce back.

Nigeria, meanwhile, travel to Eastern Europe in far better spirits.

Eric Chelle’s side have been one of Africa’s most consistent teams over the last year despite the disappointment of missing out on the World Cup. The Super Eagles have lost only once in regulation time across their last 19 matches and arrive in Warsaw unbeaten in their last five outings.

Their confidence received another boost at the weekend when they defeated Jamaica 3-0 to lift the Unity Cup. Alhassan Yusuf stole the headlines with a brace, while Terem Moffi also got on the scoresheet in an impressive attacking display.

Nigeria have developed a reputation for being difficult to beat, combining physicality, technical quality and pace in transition. The West Africans have also scored at least twice in three of their last four friendly matches, highlighting the attacking threat they possess.

History also favours the Super Eagles. The only previous meeting between these two nations came in 2018, when Nigeria secured a 1-0 victory over Poland in another international friendly.

What time does Poland vs Nigeria start?

Kick-off is scheduled for 9:45 PM EAT on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, at PGE Narodowy Stadium in Warsaw, Poland.

Poland vs Nigeria team news

Poland emerged from their defeat to Ukraine without any major injury concerns, although head coach Jan Urban is expected to make several changes to freshen up his squad.

Veteran striker Robert Lewandowski is likely to lead the attack once again as he continues his pursuit of more international goals. Karol Swiderski and Jakub Kaminski are both pushing for starting roles in the attacking positions, while Jan Bednarek could return to strengthen the defence.

Nigeria will be without two of their biggest stars. Victor Osimhen remains unavailable amid uncertainty surrounding his club future, while Ademola Lookman has been withdrawn as a precaution due to fitness concerns.

The Super Eagles will also miss Samson Tijani and Alhassan Yusuf because of visa complications, but captain Wilfred Ndidi, Moses Simon and Alex Iwobi are all available. Iwobi could make his 100th appearance for Nigeria if selected.

Predicted Lineups

Poland possible starting XI:

Bulka; Kedziora, Bednarek, Kiwior; Pyrka, Zielinski, Piotrowski, Zalewski; Swiderski, Lewandowski, Kaminski

Nigeria possible starting XI:

Poland vs Nigeria head-to-head record and current form

Nigeria boast a perfect record against Poland, winning the only previous meeting between the sides in 2018.

The hosts head into this contest on the back of consecutive defeats and have looked vulnerable defensively in recent matches. Their inability to keep clean sheets has become a growing concern for Jan Urban.

Take off with Aviator and chase wins of up to KSh 12,000,000 per round.

Nigeria, on the other hand, have enjoyed a strong run of form. The Super Eagles are unbeaten in five matches and continue to show resilience against quality opposition.

Their recent attacking displays suggest they have enough firepower to exploit Poland’s defensive weaknesses, while their midfield remains capable of controlling key moments in the game.

Poland vs Nigeria prediction

This fixture has all the ingredients of an entertaining contest.

Poland will be desperate to respond after successive defeats and should pose a threat through the experience and finishing ability of Robert Lewandowski. However, their defensive struggles have been evident in recent months.

Nigeria’s confidence is high following their Unity Cup success, and the Super Eagles possess enough pace and attacking quality to create problems for the Polish backline.

With both teams carrying attacking threats and neither side particularly convincing defensively, an open encounter could be on the cards in Warsaw.
