SportPesa League champions-elect Gor Mahia kicked off their reign with a stalemate, as they were held to a goalless final-but-one round of the 25/26 season by Mara Sugar on Wednesday afternoon at the Raila Odinga Stadium in Homa Bay.

This clash was supposed to go down over the weekend, but it got halted by the Sports Dispute Tribunal due to back-and-forth from both sides over the venue, until it was eventually cleared to be played on Wednesday.

Gor Mahia came into the match aiming to finish the league campaign on a high note, having already secured the title after their longtime rivals AFC Leopards, who had been in the title race this season, lost their penultimate fixture on Sunday.

That defeat confirmed Gor’s record-extending 22nd SportPesa League title.

K’Ogalo now sit five points clear at the summit of the table with one match left to wrap up the season. They will be crowned champions on Sunday when they face Nairobi United, the side that denied them the cup last season.

The Sugar Millers, on the other hand, had to honor the home match and also give the champions a guard of honor.

They managed to snatch their first point over champions, but at least the three points would have lifted them into seventh place on the log. Instead, this single point just pushes them to 44 points and eighth spot.
