Shummah’s spectacular rise to the top of Zambian football was fueled by a ruthless streak, finishing the season with an incredible 21 league goals in just 26 appearances.

His scoring exploits broke a nearly decade-long ceiling in the competition, making him the first player to cross the historic 20-goal milestone in the Zambian top flight since Congolese forward Idris Mbombo struck 20 for Nkana FC back in 2018.

To find anyone who scored more, one would have to go all the way back to Walter Bwalya’s 24-goal haul in 2016. Shumah’s extraordinary output effectively revived the league’s scoring standards, which had routinely dried up between 14 and 17 goals for several seasons.

Throughout the grueling campaign, the Kenyan marksman proved to be the ultimate big-game player, delivering under the immense pressure of the Power Dynamos attack.

He permanently cemented his cult-hero status at the Arthur Davies Stadium by scoring in the fierce Kitwe Derby against arch-rivals Nkana FC.

Beyond his domestic dominance, Shumah successfully translated his lethal form into continental football during the club’s CAF Champions League campaign.

He grabbed sports headlines across East Africa after scoring a dramatic equalizer against Ugandan heavyweights Vipers SC at the St Mary’s Stadium in Kitende, celebrating the continental goal by proudly waving the Kenyan flag in honour of the season late prime minister Raila Odinga.

Despite his phenomenal, award-winning campaign in Zambia, Moses Shumah’s continued omission from the national team has remained one of the most heavily debated topics among Kenyan football fans.

National team head coach Benni McCarthy faced widespread criticism from local football administrators and pundits alike after repeatedly snubbing the in-form striker, most notably during the recent FIFA Series call-ups and now the friendly matches against Palestine and Krygzstan in June.

Many observers found the decision baffling, pointing out that Shumah was comfortably the most lethal Kenyan center-forward on the continent while regular starters like captain Michael Olunga struggled with injuries.
