How to read the English Premier League table

Each club plays 38 league matches: home and away against the other 19 teams. A win earns three points, a draw one and a defeat none. If two teams have equal points, goal difference and then goals scored help determine their order.
| Column | What it means |
| P | Games played |
| W / D / L | Wins, draws and losses |
| GF / GA | Goals scored and conceded |
| GD | Goal difference: GF minus GA |
| Pts | Total league points |
Read the Premier League stats alongside the points column. P means played; W, D and L record wins, draws and losses; GF and GA show goals scored and conceded. GD is the difference between those goals. A club with a game in hand has a match left to play, not points already secured.

Premier League results affect both points and goal difference. A 2–0 win gives the winner three points and improves its goal difference by two. Whether it moves up also depends on what the clubs around it have done.
