World football governing body, FIFA, have confirmed the dates for the highly anticipated 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament.

The continental showpiece that will be co-hosted by three East African nations, Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania, is set to kick off on Saturday, 19 June 2027, and run all the way through to Saturday, 17 July.

This will be a historic event, as for the first time, the tournament will be hosted by three countries, with 28 favorites competing nations coming to battle for the title on East African soil.

With the dates officially locked in, the three hosts will have to fasten their seatbelts for the preparations, as there is little time left before the big kickoff.

Earlier this year, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) officials hinted that the three nations are not quite ready for the tournament yet, with the main stadiums still falling short of required standards.

Kenya is sprucing up three of its major venues; they arre building a brand-new multipurpose facility at the Talanta Sports Stadium, while Nyayo Stadium and Kasarani Stadium have already been closed for further renovations.

These two grounds were among the key sites that hosted the historic African Nations Championship (CHAN) 2024.

On the flip side, according to the latest update from Raymond Omollo, PS of the State Department for Internal Security and National Administration, the Talanta Stadium is in its final construction phase.

The superstructure is complete, and efforts are now focused on seat installation, broadcast systems, lighting, and final electrical and ICT fittings.

With the main structure done, the current priority is internal finishes nearing completion; including public address systems, screens, and floodlights, all bringing the arena closer to game-ready status.

Renamed the Raila Odinga International Stadium in December 2025 in honor of the late former Prime Minister, the Rt. Hon Raila Amollo Odinga, this 60,000-seater is a flagship venue expected to host both the opening and closing ceremonies of the continental showcase that Kenya will co-host alongside Uganda and Tanzania.

For the other two nations: Tanzania’s lineup features the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam, the Samia Suluhu Stadium in Arusha, as well as the Fumba and Amaan stadiums in Zanzibar.

Uganda has proposed Hoima City Stadium, Mandela National Stadium in Kampala, and Akii Bua Stadium in Lira, spreading matches across different regions of the country.

There has been some noise online that the three nations might lose hosting rights, but now with FIFA’s confirmation, Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania just need to get their acts together under the Pamoja bid and hustle through the preparations for this historic showpiece.
