The SportPesa League enters round 30 this weekend and we have some thrilling encounters to look forward to as we enter the business end of the season.
League leaders Gor Mahia (57) hold a two-point advantage over their eternal rivals AFC Leopards (55) at the top of the table. These two giants will lock horns in the 99th Mashemeji Derby on Sunday at the Nyayo Stadium.
The highly anticipated clash will be the cherry on top of an action packed weekend, with a win for Gor further cementing their status as the best team in the country.
There is plenty to look out for as we move further down the SportPesa League table and we have a look at some of the top games scheduled to be played over the weekend.
Bandari vs Ulinzi Stars – Saturday, 2PM – Kwale Stadium
Bandari are unbeaten in their last six league matches and come into the game in ninth place with 39 points. Their most recent outing was a goalless draw against record league winners Gor.
They take on a 15th place Ulinzi side who are just two points above the relegation zone. The soldiers did extremely well to beat KCB 3-2 away from home in their last fixture.
With three wins from their last five games, Ulinzi continue their plight to remain in the topflight next season.
The dockers have beaten Ulinzi twice in their last five head-to-head matches, losing just once. With what’s on the line here, we can expect an electric encounter with both teams tipped to score.

Shabana vs Police – Saturday, 2PM – Gusii Stadium
Shabana can jump back into the SportPesa League’s top three with a win here against champions Police. The hosts bounced back with a 1-0 victory against Kakamega Homeboyz last week, leaving them in fifth with 46 points.
Police on the other hand are unbeaten in their last five matches in all competitions and are in third place with 47. Their last match was a 3-0 demolition of title hopefuls Leopards.
The last four matches between these two teams have resulted in slim 1-0 wins, either side winning twice. We can expect yet another low scoring fixture here, with the home team tipped as favorites to grind out a narrow win.
Prediction – Shabana to win or draw
Kariobangi Sharks vs Murang’a – Saturday, 3PM – Police Sacco Stadium
Two teams on poor runs of form clash on Saturday, with both desperate to bounce back to winning ways. Sharks are coming off a 1-0 defeat to Mara Sugar, leaving them in 16th place with 26 points – two away from safety.
They face a Murang’a side who are without a win in their last six matches – seeing them lose grip in the standings. The dismal form has seen them drop to 10th place with 38 points.
Murang’a have lost three games in a row, still seeking a first win under new boss Dennis Odhiambo who took over from Osborne Monday a couple of weeks ago. They have never managed a victory against Sharks in five previous attempts.
The last two games between these two sides failed to produce a goal – both resulting in barren draws and the same is a possibility here.

AFC Leopards vs Gor Mahia – Sunday, 3PM – Nyayo Stadium
The biggest game of the weekend and the season is upon us with lots more on the line than in the recent past. Leopards have the chance to win a first league title since 1998, but have to get past the might of Gor first.
Only two points separate both teams at the top of the table and Leopards are out to complete a league double over their rivals. Julius Masaba was on target as Leopards sank Gor 1-0 in the reverse fixture last December.
The hosts saw a four-game winning streak snapped with a humiliating defeat to Police last week, while Gor are without a win in their last three outings. Their most recent match was a barren draw against Bandari.
With two wins, Gor have the slight advantage in the recent head-to-head record between the sides while Leopards have only managed one win in that run.
This fixture is not traditionally known for goals but with the league on the line, we may be in for a rather unconventional derby. However, Leopards are in a better run of form and are favorites to avoid defeat.
