• AFC Leopards vs Kenya Police FC will be played on Saturday, April 18, 2026.
  • The SportPesa League Round 28 fixture will be held at Nyayo Stadium from 3pm EAT.
  • An Ingwe win could temporarily send them top of the table, leapfrogging Gor Mahia in the title race.

Title hopefuls AFC Leopards could reclaim the Sportpesa League summit on Saturday if they manage to floor Kenya Police FC at the Nyayo National Stadium in a match set to kick off at 3pm EAT.

Ingwe’s three points would see them temporarily leapfrog table-toppers Gor Mahia, moving to 58 points compared to Gor’s 57, who will be playing their game on Sunday against Bandari.

The Fred Ambani side will aim to pile on that pressure as the SportPesa League title race continues to heat up, with the two sides just separated by two points.

Both teams are treating their remaining seven matches like finals, and this weekend each will play a fixture ahead of the 99th Mashemeji Derby.

That clash could be decisive, with the title potentially hinging on next week’s encounter at Nyayo Stadium.

In addition, the permutations ahead of that highly anticipated clash could get intense, depending on whether the results go their way this weekend or favor just one side.

Coming into round 28 of the league, Ingwe are boasting strong form, having lost only one of their last six fixtures, and they’ll be aiming to extend their winning streak to five consecutive victories.

In their most recent outing, they beat Murang’a SEAL 2-0 last weekend in an away fixture played at Nyayo Stadium two weeks ago.

Speaking ahead of the clash, AFC Leopards coach Fred Ambani told the Star that at this critical junction, they have to be careful with every detail, and everything they do has quietly been the backbone of their resilience.

“We have had to be very smart with how we use our players, especially with the injuries we’ve had, because at this stage, one wrong decision can cost you not just a match, but momentum,” Ambani admitted. “Injuries are part of the game, but how you respond to them defines your season.”

Still, Ambani refuses to let injuries become an excuse.

“We trust the players available, and we believe in the depth we have built over time because this is a team effort, not an individual story, and everyone must be ready when called upon,” he added.

On the other hand, Gor Mahia will be banking on Kenya Police to disappoint Ingwe.

Kenya Police, the defending champions, come into this clash sitting fourth on the log with 44 points 11 points behind Ingwe.

They will be looking to bounce back to winning ways and push hard for a title that’s still within reach, or at least finish strong. In their most recent match, they were held to a goalless draw by Mathare United.

Head coach Nicholas Muyoti carries his own quiet calculations. His side may not boast the same momentum, but they possess something equally dangerous clarity of purpose.

“We understand the magnitude of the challenge ahead of us, especially against a team in such strong form, but we also believe in our structure, our discipline, and our ability to execute our plan,” Muyoti said.

Police have yet to beat AFC Leopards since 2022 in the SportPesa League following their promotion.

The two sides have faced each other nine times, with Ingwe winning four of those encounters while sharing draws in the other five.

The first leg of this encounter saw both sides share spoils in a goalless draw.
