Mathare United dominated the SportPesa League Team of the Week following their 4-1 demolition of title-contenders AFC Leopards at Nyayo Stadium.

The Slum Boys were the talk of the weekend, coming from behind to dismantle Ingwe and throw a massive dent into their title hopes. The Coach John Kamau led side saw two of their brightest talents, Brian Ouru and Isaac Omweri, secure the highest ratings of the round.

While AFC Leopards drew first blood through Victor Omune, it was the Mathare midfield that took over. Brian Ouru bagged a brace, while Isaac Omweri and Ian Omondi added the icing to the victory that moves Mathare nine points clear of the relegation zone.

Goalkeeper – Joseph Ogenda – Mara Sugar (7.5)

Ogenda was a wall between the sticks as Mara Sugar held firm against a rujevenated Bandari under Bernard Mwalala.
He pulled off four important saves, including a fingertip stop in the 88th minute to ensure a clean sheet and a vital point for the sugar millers.

It marked the club’s first cleansheet after conceding in nine consecutive matches.

Defender – Robinson Musungu – Mara Sugar (7.9)

The young defender has been a revelation this season. In Round 24, he recorded 6 clearances and won 100% of his aerial duels.
The league debutant had an 85% passing accuracy.

Defender – Marvin Amuka – Bidco United (7.9)

Amuka was a rock at the back for Bidco. He registered 10 interceptions and made a goal-line clearance that proved to be the difference-maker in the match against APS Bomet.

The central defender also scored Bidco’s only goal of the day.

Defender – Steve Akouala – Tusker FC (7.4)

The Brewers’ leftback produced a decent performance in his first league start since joining the club in the mid season transfer window.

Akouala managed 8 ball recoveries and won 4 tackles helping Tusker maintain their push for a top-three finish.

Defender – Dimpol Omamo – Posta Rangers (6.9)

Omamo stood tall despite a heavy-pressure game from the defending champions.

He stayed solid defensively with 5 interceptions and 3 successful long balls and helped the mailmen break an eleven match winless run.

Midfield – Brian Ouru – Mathare United (8.3)

Ouru was the star man for the Slum Boys on Saturday inspiring a comeback from a goal down to a 4-1 win. The quick second half brace saw Ouru named the highest rated player of the gameweek.

Midfield – Said Tsuma –Bandari (7.5)

Tsuma helped safeguard Bandari’s defense in the goalless draw against Mara Sugar at home and earns a spot in the team of the week.

Midfield – Shariff Musa. Gor Mahia (8.1)

The Gor Mahia playmaker was in sublime form. Shariff won the penalty for Gor Mahia’s first goal, assisted the second and scored a spectacular third for Kogalo against Ulinzi Stars.

Midfield – Isaac Omweri – Mathare United (8.2)

Omweri,the second highest rated player of the gameweek was the perfect partner for Ouru. He provided two assists in the space of ten minutes and completed 4 successful crosses with a fabulous goal after a quick corner routine.

Forward – Joe Waithira –Muranga Seal(7.8)

The Murang’a Seal captain led the line with passion.

He assisted compatriot Michael Macharia for the equalizer,took 2 shots on target and had 5 touches in the opposition box.

Forward – Ibrahim Joshua – Tusker FC (7.6)

The Tanzanian international is finally finding his footing after rejoining the team in January. Joshua bagged a first half brace made one progressive pass and had 5 attempts on goal.

Coach of the Week – John Kamau – Mathare United

Kamau masterminded a tactical victory that showcased Mathare’s growth.

His decision to make tactical changes that included introduction of Adams Nyambane in midfield and the deployment of Brian Ouru further forward in the second half paid off and he eventually won heavily at the Nyayo National Stadium after back to back losses against Gor Mahia and Shabana.
