Posta Rangers shocked SportPesa League defending champions Kenya Police FC 2-0 at the Kasarani Annex to record their first league victory in over three months on Friday afternoon.

Goals from veteran Jackson Macharia and a towering second-half header from substitute Dinken Mwema were enough to dismantle the law enforcers effectively ending the Mailmen’s agonizing 11-match winless streak.

Both teams chose to maintain their starting Lineups. Posta Head Coach Charles Omondi Korea retaining his men that drew against Gor Mahia last time out at Nyayo Stadium while Nicholas Muyoti also fielded the same starting eleven that beat Bandari 2-0.

The Mailmen breakthrough came in the seventh minute thanks to a successful high press.

An attempt to build up play from the backline between Goalkeeper Dan Ogembo and Defensive midfielder David Owino saw the latter take heavy touch that proved costly as the marauding Jackson Macharia striked into the bottom right with his first touch.

Police would attempt to fight back and almost got the leveller at the half hour mark from an Abud Omar freekick,the defender delivered a perfectly timed cross into the box that was misjudged by goalkeeper Bixente Otieno but went just over the bar for a corner.

In the second half, Coach Charles Korea Omondi introduced Dinken Mwema to tighten up the defense, but it was at the other end where the substitute made his mark.

In the 74th minute, Mwema rose highest to meet a pinpoint corner from Brian Marita powering a bullet header past the helpless Dan Ogembo to double the lead and silence the Law Enforcers for a 2-0 scoreline at full-time.

The victory propels Posta Rangers up to 12th in the SportPesa League standings, breathing space into their fight against the drop. For Kenya Police, they miss the chance to move level with third-placed Shabana .

For Nicholas Muyoti and Kenya Police, the defeat is a massive blow to their title defense. The champions remain on 37 points, and should Gor Mahia win their weekend fixture, the gap at the top could swell to an insurmountable 16 points.
