  • The KCB vs Kabras tie will end as a draw after being called off on Saturday, March 7 due to heavy rain.
  • At the time of the stoppage, both sides were locked at 10–10 in a fiercely contested encounter.
  • The KRU Fixtures and League Committee convened on Tuesday, March 10, and ruled that the result at the time of abandonment would stand.

KCB RFC and their long-time rivals Kabras Sugar RFC will have to settle for a share of the spoils after their highly anticipated Kenya Cup Round 10 clash was abandoned on Saturday, March 7 due to relentless downpour.

The fixture, one of the most electrifying matchups of the season, was called off just before the second half was set to kick off.

With no let-up in the rain and the KCB Sports Club pitch quickly becoming waterlogged, centre referee Kevin Wambugu had no choice but to stop the game.

Committee upholds result of abandoned KCB vs Kabras tie

At the time of the stoppage, both sides were locked at 10-10 in a fiercely contested battle.

The Kenya Rugby Union Fixtures and League Committee convened on Tuesday, March 10 to deliberate on the matter and ultimately ruled that the result at the time of abandonment would stand as the final outcome.

“The other affected Kenya Cup match involved KCB Rugby and Kabras Sugar RFC which had been abandoned during play. In this case, the committee ruled that the result at the time the match was halted will stand as the final outcome of the fixture,” read part of the official statement.

The ruling was backed by the Kenya Rugby Union (KRU) competition regulations, specifically Section 13: Abandonment – Other Causes, which states that if a match is abandoned at halftime or at any stage during the second half, the score at that moment shall be considered final.

However, if the game is called off in the first half, it’s declared a draw and must be replayed on a date set by the Union in consultation with the affected teams.

The outcome arguably favours Kabras Sugar, who were playing away from home and had been under pressure for most of the first half as KCB pinned them back.

The bankers appeared poised to end Kabras’ impressive half-century unbeaten run stretching back four seasons.

Despite KCB head coach Andrew Amonde expressing his preference for a replay, the ruling means the result stands.

Both teams therefore remain unbeaten this season, with Kabras leading the standings on 47 points.

KCB sit second with 45 points, while Menengai Oilers are third, also on 45 points. Strathmore Leos and KU Blak Blad complete the top five with 31 and 23 points respectively.

In other disciplinary decisions, the fixtures committee weighed in on a KRU Championship showdown between Mean Machine and Mombasa RFC, ruling in favor of the coastal outfit.

Mombasa have been awarded full points and a 28-0 victory, while Mean Machine will be docked two points for breaching regulations.

The ruling was based on regulation 13.6.4.6(b)(ii) concerning match abandonment, read together with clause 8 of the 2025/26 league manual, which touches on match venue compliance.

Meanwhile, the Kenya Cup fixture between KU Blak Blad and Impala RFC has been rescheduled to a midweek slot ahead of the final round of league matches.

KU will retain hosting rights, and both sides have been instructed to complete the tie by Wednesday noon to allow ample recovery time before the next set of fixtures on March 14, 2026.
