This promises to be a fascinating showdown between the SportPesa League leaders and the regional underdogs who have earned a reputation as giant slayers.

Therefore, Gor will be approaching this clash with plenty of caution, having witnessed how BB Bread disposed of their fierce rivals, AFC Leopards, in the Round of 64, eliminating them via a penalty shootout.

K’Ogalo enter this match as the clear favorites, boasting an impressive 13-match unbeaten streak that they will be keen to extend across all competitions.

They secured their spot in this round after comfortably overcoming Dero FC in the previous stage with a 2-0 victory.

Meanwhile, BB Bread, who compete in the regional Nairobi leagues, stunned AFC Leopards on penalties, winning 4-3 after a 2-2 draw in regular time at the Police Sacco grounds.

That fearless performance has given them the belief that they can topple another giant as they set their sights on the last 16.

Ahead of the encounter, Gor Mahia head coach Charles Akonnor urged caution, praising BB Bread’s structure and discipline.

“They executed their penalty shootout perfectly against AFC Leopards. We must not underestimate them,” he told the Star.

Akonnor stressed the need for precision, a balanced approach between attack and defense, and maintaining intelligence and intensity throughout the contest.

On the other side, BB Bread coach Ajastine Okoba exuded confidence. “Our boys are ready. Playing Gor Mahia is what we dreamed of when we started this club,” he stated.

Okoba emphasized that tactical discipline, patience, and a compact defensive shape would be the keys to unsettling a technically superior opponent.

“Our strategy is simple: stay compact, counter-attack smartly, and take our chances when they arrive. We have to be fearless,” he added.
