Kenyan golf ace, Njoroge Kibugu, delivered a stunning performance in the final round to finish six under par at the 2026 Magical Kenya Open, held at the Karen Country Club in Nairobi.

Kibugu defied the odds on Sunday, February 22, despite the rainy weather that forced play to be suspended twice due to lightning. He stayed composed and carded an outstanding five birdies in his round of 65, draining them on holes 1, 11, 12, 14, and 18.

It was a clean round, completely free of bogeys for the youngster.

The 22-year-old grabbed global attention, not just national praise, on Friday when he rescued his tournament hopes with one of the shots of his life on the DP World Tour.

After enduring a tough day, he returned late to the course sitting at three under par – a delicate position with the cut set at four under.

However, Kibugu, with incredible precision on the final hole, the 18th, managed to drop an eagle putt.

This cemented his status as a national hero, securing his spot in the money bracket and making him the only one among the 17 Kenyan players in the field to make the cut.

It also ended a two-year drought since his brother, Mutahi Kibugu, achieved the feat in 2023.

“Today I wanted to recover, I wanted to do better than yesterday. I got the birdies, and I’m really quite happy with the achievement today,” Kibugu said after his amazing final-round charge.

Saturday was not the greatest day for Kibugu, who suffered five bogeys to drop to one under par, before his incredible recovery to six under on Sunday.

“The match was suspended for a while today, and it was tough to get back into it. My body became so slow; I didn’t hit the greatest of shots. I knew I wanted to make a few pars, but I’m really happy with how I’ve finished,” Kibugu reiterated after his impressive tournament.

Meanwhile, South Africa’s Casey Jarvis celebrated a breakthrough moment in his young career by securing his first DP World Tour title with an impressive wire-to-wire victory at this 57th edition of the Magical Kenya Open.

The 22-year-old had shared the lead after each of the opening three rounds and showed remarkable composure on a dramatic final day that was interrupted twice by storms.

Playing alongside American Davis Bryant, Jarvis never let the momentum slip, even as conditions became increasingly challenging.

He produced a superb closing round of 62, highlighted by six birdies and two eagles. After making three birdies in his opening four holes, Jarvis kept himself just ahead of a tightly packed leaderboard.

Bryant applied steady pressure, while fellow South African Hennie du Plessis and Italy’s Francesco Laporta also made charges on the back nine.

A pivotal moment came at the 12th hole, where Jarvis brilliantly judged a long putt up a steep slope for eagle to move two shots clear shortly before play was halted by thunder.

When play resumed, he calmly extended his lead with another birdie and showed his nerve by holing a crucial par putt soon after.

Although Bryant briefly closed the gap to one shot late in the round, Jarvis remained composed.

Standing on the 18th tee with the title in sight, he found the fairway and the green before confidently rolling in a 15-foot eagle putt to finish in style and secure a three-shot victory.

Bryant finished alone in second place, with du Plessis close behind after a strong final round. Laporta also featured near the top of the leaderboard, while Denmark’s Jacob Skov Olesen and England’s Nathan Kimsey shared 19-under totals.
