It was a feast day for the SportPesa League heavyweights as they posted emphatic victories to secure places in the FKF Cup Round of 32 when the tournament kicked off on Saturday, February 7 across various venues.

Gor Mahia, Kakamega Homeboyz, Murang’a SEAL, Ulinzi Stars, Kariobangi Sharks, Posta Rangers, and Kenya Police were the sides in action on Saturday and they all delivered to advance to the next round.

Meanwhile, Zetech University, FC Dynamo, 3K from the National Super League, Mfalme, Zoo and Denmark were also among the teams that managed to qualify.

FKF Cup 25/26 Round of 64 Saturday recap

Headlining the day was last season’s runners-up, Gor Mahia, who took on Dero FC at the Mamboleo Stadium in Kisumu.

First-half strikes from Samuel Kapen who broke the deadlock and Levin Odhiambo, who doubled the advantage, ensured the record champions kicked off their campaign on a high note as they chase the title they narrowly missed last season to Nairobi United.

Earlier at the same venue, fans experienced a six-goal thriller as the 2023 champions Kakamega Homeboyz pummeled Amani Youth 5-1.

Goals from Moses Mudavadi, an Oliver Majka brace, a fourth from Shafik Batambuze and Peter Thiong’o sealing the win ensured Patrick Odhiambo’s squad not only advanced but also honored their late teammate center-back Silas Abung’ana who passed away this week.

There was another double-header some miles back in Nairobi at the Police Sacco Stadium, where the high-flying Murang’a SEAL dismantled Kahawa Pride 9-1.

Victor Haki dominated the fixture with a hat-trick, while Michael Macharia came off the bench to grab a brace.

Captain John Kiplangat also found the net, with Lucas Maina, Joe Waithira, and Yusuf Ali each adding a goal to sail the team into the round of 32.

Later at the same venue, the 2024 champions Kenya Police narrowly beat Embakasi United 1-0.

A decisive goal from Aboud Omar handed Nicholas Muyoti’s side the home victory and sent them through.

Meanwhile, Kariobangi Sharks’ trip to the coastal region was worthwhile they returned to Nairobi with a bag full of goals after frying Pwani Oil 7-0 at the Mbaraki Sports Club.

Their in-form player Humphrey Aroko grabbed a brace, matched by another brace from Izzadin Juma, while Victor Ngume, Ally Salum, and Eusters Chasara added a goal apiece.

Elsewhere, Boniface Muchiri scored the lone goal for Ulinzi Stars as they edged Kamle Park Rangers, while National Super League side 3K feasted 8-0 against Limuru.

The FKF Cup continues on Sunday with more fixtures and thrilling encounters lined up.
