- HSBC SVNS 2 in Nairobi will kick off on February 14–15 at Nyayo National Stadium in Kenya.
Argentina women’s 7s head coach Facundo Salas has revealed the key areas his team will be looking to improve as they prepare for the HSBC SVNS 2 opener in Nairobi.
Earlier in January this year, the South American outfit competed in the HSBC SVNS 3, where they reached the final only to fall to African powerhouse South Africa 12-5 in Dubai.
Despite that narrow defeat in the final, they have already qualified for the legs in Nairobi, Montevideo, and Sao Paulo in the HSBC SVNS 2, with the opener set for Nairobi’s Nyayo National Stadium from February 14-15.
Salas has already named a strong 13-player squad for the action in less than a week, retaining the same group that traveled to the United Arab Emirates in January.

Key areas Argentina women’s 7s will improve in the HSBC SVNS 2 Nairobi
Speaking to RugbyPass after naming the squad, the Las Yaguaretes head coach stated that they learned valuable lessons in HSBC SVNS 3 and will be aiming to strengthen certain aspects of their game, both in attack and defense, as well as in executing their lineouts.
We took stock of SVNS 3 and from there see what our things we can improve to continue moving forward and take a step forward, both in attack and defense, as well as in obtaining the line and the exits. This time the outings were very productive, we grabbed a lot of balls in the tower, and all this is a product of the work and effort of the girls,” Facundo explained.

HSBC SVNS 2 is no pushover, Argentina women’s 7s coach admits
Salas believes HSBC SVNS 2 will be more demanding but is confident his side will give their all in the three outings as they target HSBC SVNS World Championship events in Hong Kong, Valladolid and Bordeaux as well as promotion to HSBC SVNS 1 next season.
Now SVNS 2 is coming, with very demanding rivals who will make us run a lot more, force us to make decisions much faster, and we have to be prepared for that,” he added.
We were looking so much for this promotion that we wanted, so now we continue improving and will give 110 percent, as we say, for what lies ahead. They are going to be three very challenging tournaments where everyone plays each other, but competing with the best helps you improve and our expectations and dreams remain intact.”

They will be aiming to settle the score after losing to them in the HSBC SVNS 3 final, a match where poor discipline saw them receive two yellow cards.
Argentina women’s 7s and Kenya Lionesses are no strangers to each other.
Last season, Kenya edged Argentina 17–12 in the first leg of the Challenger Series Cup final in South Africa, a historic victory that marked Kenya’s first-ever international title.
