FKF Premier League

There is plenty of mouthwatering lined up as we head into round 20 of the SportPesa League this weekend.

Gor Mahia are sitting pretty at the top of the SL standings with 40 points, two more than their eternal rivals AFC Leopards in second. However, the latter have a game in hand.

Gor will be seeking a fifth straight league win when they travel to APS Bomet on Sunday. Bomet climbed out of the relegation zone after an impressive 2-1 away victory at Nairobi United in midweek.

Bomet are now in 14th place with 18 points, one above the dreaded relegation zone. Struggling Sofapaka are bottom of the table with 14 points after 19 games.

Sofapaka are desperate for a result after three successive defeats but will not have it easy as they host the most in-form team in the league. Fourth place Murang’a are seeking a fourth win on the bounce.

Here we have a look at some of the top games lined up in round 20 of the SportPesa League. Our analysis offers a predicted outcome.

Bidco United vs Kakamega Homeboyz – Saturday, 1PM

Bidco are currently on the worst run in the league, without a win in their last 14 matches. The last time they won was a 2-1 victory against Ulinzi Stars last October.

Their torrid run of form leaves them in 17th place with 16 points as the pressure for a positive result increases. They shrugged off back-to-back defeats to hold champions Police FC in a 1-1 draw last time out.

They face sixth-place Kakamega Homeboyz who have lost just once in their last five games. Homeboyz were held in a thrilling 3-3 draw against Mara Sugar.

Homeboyz are mourning after the untimely death of their defender Silas Abungana, who passed away on Wednesday. The 25-year old was part of the team that played against Mara Sugar last week.

In the 11 matches played between these two sides, Bidco has never beaten Homeboyz. Six of the games ended in defeat.

Prediction – Kakamega Homeboyz to win

Bandari vs AFC Leopards – Saturday, 3PM

Bandari’s impressive seven-game unbeaten streak was halted in a 1-0 loss to Shabana last time out. Brian Michira scored a very controversial penalty to hand Bandari their fourth defeat of the season.

The dockers are in ninth with 27 points, nine behind second-place Leopards. The visitors need all three points to keep up the pace with the league leaders.

Leopards have had a week to rest since they edged Sofapaka 1-0, a fourth consecutive win for the title contenders. They are seeking a first league title since 1998.

The last two games between these sides have resulted in barren draws. This is expected to be a low-scoring match, most likely decided by a solitary goal it doesn’t result in yet another stalemate.

Prediction – Under 2.5 goals

Posta Rangers vs Shabana – Saturday, 4PM

Posta are without a win in their last seven games. Their last two games resulted in draws against Mathare and Tusker, leaving them in 11th place with 24 points.

They host a noisy and high-flying Shabana who have steadily risen up the log into third place. One defeat in their last five matches, leaves them with 31 points.

There have been five previous games between these two teams and Shabana have only ever won once. Posta have won three, with only one resulting in a draw – a 1-1 draw in the 2024/25 season.

Shabana top scorer Brian Michira is fit and will be looking to add to his tally of six goals so far in the SL.

Prediction – Both teams to score

APS Bomet vs Gor Mahia – Sunday, 3PM

Bomet will be full of confidence after snapping a seven-match winless run to stun Nairobi United 2-1. The win lifted them out of the relegation zone with 18 points.

The win, only their fourth of the season, should be a stepping stone to turn their fortunes around but they face the toughest test in Gor Mahia. Bomet will believe they can do it again after they stunned Gor, inflicting a heavy 4-1 defeat on them in round three.

The record Kenyan league winners brushed off Sofapaka 3-0 and are seeking a fifth straight win here. New signing Ezekiel Adukwaw continues to impress and he scored his sixth goal of the season in the victory.

Sofapaka vs Murang’a Seal – Sunday, 3PM

The bottom side in the league goes up against the team in the best form this Sunday.

Murang’a have looked a new and mighty side since coach Osborne Monday took charge. They have lost once in their last 13 games.

Mathare United
Mathare United

Their brilliant and dominant run of form has seen them skyrocket up the table into the top four with 30 points. Captain Joe Waithira scored a brace in their recent 2-1 victory against Bomet. He leads the SL top scorer standings with 12 goals so far.

Sofapaka have lost their last three games and have not managed to score a single goal in that run. They have also lost four of their last five league matches against Murang’a.

Prediction – Murang’a to win
