Real Betis are gearing up for a potentially explosive affair when they host Atletico Madrid in the Copa del Rey quarterfinals on Thursday.

Betis, three-time Copa del Rey winners, beat Elche 2-1 in the previous round to set this mouthwatering clash. Chimy Avila bagged a brace to send his side through to the quarters.

Atletico, on the other hand had Antoine Griezmann to thank as his solitary goal was enough in a slim 1-0 victory over Segunda side Deportivo La Coruna.

Atletico have won the Copa del Rey an impressive 10 times but have not featured in the final since they last won it during the 2012/13 season. They beat city rivals Real Madrid 2-1 to lift the title on that occasion.

Diego Simeone’s side have not lost in their last seven away games and are hoping they can get past a stern Betis test. However, they have only won three of their last 16 Copa del Rey matches against La Liga opposition.

Betis will not go down without a fight and if their recent home record is anything to go by, we are in for a highly-entertaining battle.

We have a look at both sides before the clash and offer our predicted outcome for the game.

The rest of the side is expected to remain unchanged.
