SportPesa League side Nairobi United will be seeking to bounce back and exact revenge in the CAF Confederation Cup 25/26 when they visit Tanzania’s Azam FC on Sunday evening in the second leg at the Amaan Complex in Zanzibar.

The two sides met last weekend, with United hosting at Nyayo National Stadium, where they suffered a narrow defeat losing 1–2 at home.

It was rising star Duncan Omalla who gave NaiBois the lead in the first half with a well-finished volley, before Jephte Kitambala leveled just before the break.

The decisive moment arrived in the 78th minute. After Himid Mao struck the post, the rebound deflected off Nairobi United goalkeeper Ernest Mohammed into his own net, handing Azam both the lead and their first victory of the Confederation campaign.

With three matches remaining in Group B, NaiBois cling to a glimmer of hope to advance, having lost all three of their opening fixtures falling to Wydad AC in the opener, then dropping a tight 1–0 result at home to AS Maniema Union of Congo.

The history-makers will aim to reset their course, hoping to avenge the loss to Azam on the road and also triumph in the return legs against Wydad and AS Maniema.

But Azam are a formidable opponent, and United will have to dig deep against the Tanzanian Premier League giants, who are targeting nothing less than a victory – their second in Group B to keep their own knockout stage ambitions alive.

“I believe in the past two days since we have been here, the team has prepared well and is eager to play tomorrow. In terms of performance, they want to do better than they did back home,” Ali said during a pre-match press conference on Saturday.

He added that they intend to give their best and claim all three points to stay in contention.

We want to approach the match positively we have nothing to lose. Wea re focused on taking the three points to keep our hopes alive.

Meanwhile, Azam FC midfielder Adolf Mtasingwa acknowledged the match will be challenging but emphasized his side’s readiness to fight for the win.

“I think it will be another tough match, just like in Nairobi, but we are well prepared to go and get the three points. Mentally and physically, we’re giving everything,” he stated.

With both teams having plenty to play for, they will leave it all on the pitch to keep their progression hopes alive.

For NaiBois, securing an away win is especially crucial another defeat would further diminish their chances of advancing.

The match is scheduled to kick off at 7 PM EAT.
