Mathare United will be out to steady their campaign when they host KCB in a crucial SportPesa League encounter at the Kasarani Annex.
For the Slum Boys, the fixture presents another opportunity to turn flashes of promise into a sustained run of results as the season enters a decisive phase.
Coached by John Kamau, Mathare United currently sit 12th on the league table with 22 points.

Their numbers reflect a side still searching for balance: 11 goals scored, 15 conceded, and an impressive eight clean sheets.
Defensively, they have often shown resilience, but translating that solidity into victories has been their biggest challenge.
Their recent form tells a similar story. In their last five matches, Mathare have won twice, lost twice, and drawn once, a run that underlines their inconsistency.
With the team eager to find rhythm, midfielder Brian Ochieng’, who will be facing his former club, believes unity and focus could make the difference.

Speaking ahead of the match, Ochieng’ expressed confidence that Mathare are on the right path.
“We have held a meeting as a team because we want to be consistent. It’s something we’ve lacked this season, and if we get a win against KCB, it will be a good sign for us,” he said. His comments highlight a dressing room that is aware of its shortcomings but equally determined to correct them.
KCB, on the other hand, arrive in Nairobi wounded and in need of a response. The bankers are currently 10th on the log with 25 points, having scored 18 goals and conceded the same number, while keeping seven clean sheets.
Under the guidance of Robert Matano, KCB have struggled to build momentum, particularly in recent weeks. Their last five matches have yielded just one win, alongside three defeats and a draw, a run that has stalled their progress up the table.
Their most recent outing, a 2-1 loss to Tusker, left plenty of room for reflection. Assistant coach Paul Ogai admitted his side failed to impose themselves early enough in that match.
“We didn’t make any dangerous moves and had no shot on target in the first half against Tusker FC, and that’s why we couldn’t get what we wanted. We are now looking forward to making amends,” Ogai explained. His assessment points to a KCB side that knows improvement is required, particularly in attack.
Historically, this fixture has been closely contested. In their last five head-to-head meetings, both sides have claimed two wins apiece, with one match ending in a draw.
Interestingly, their recent league meetings have often been cagey affairs, with the last four SportPesa League encounters between the two teams all ending level at halftime.
As Mathare United chase consistency and KCB look to bounce back from a poor run, all signs point to a tightly fought contest at Kasarani Annex. With both sides separated by just three points on the table, the outcome could have significant implications for their ambitions going forward.
