- Benson Omalla set for SportPesa League return after challenging stint in Cambodia.
- His return to local football comes just months after he parted ways with Visakha, a club he joined in July 2025 on a three-year contract after leaving Gor Mahia.
Former Gor Mahia striker and Harambee Stars forward Benson Omalla is set to make another return to the SportPesa League with newly promoted side Nairobi United emerging as his next destination.
The move will mark yet another chapter in the eventful career of one of Kenya’s most prolific forwards in recent years, following his brief and challenging stint abroad with Cambodian Premier League outfit Visakha FC.
Omalla’s return to local football comes just months after he parted ways with Visakha, a club he joined in July 2025 on a three-year contract after leaving Gor Mahia.
However, his stay in Phnom Penh proved short-lived. The 24-year-old featured in eight league matches for the Cambodian side, scoring three goals before both parties agreed to terminate the contract in December.

Visakha, in a statement released on their official platforms, thanked the striker for his contribution and wished him well in his future endeavours.
Before his move to Cambodia, Omalla had once again returned to Gor Mahia after an ill-fated spell in Lebanon with Al Safa SC.
That move, which came in August 2024 following a sensational SportPesa League season where Omalla won the Golden Boot with 19 goals quickly turned sour.
Political instability, unpaid wages and the suspension of the Lebanese league forced the striker to invoke FIFA regulations that allow players to terminate contracts after two months of non-payment.

Upon receiving his International Transfer Certificate, Omalla rejoined Gor Mahia midway through the 2024/25 season but struggled to rediscover his sharpness.
He managed just a handful of goals as K’Ogalo endured a rare trophyless campaign, losing the league title to Kenya Police FC and seeing their nine-year domestic cup dominance end after a 2–1 defeat to Nairobi United in the FKF Cup final.
Despite his recent struggles, Omalla’s pedigree in Kenyan football remains unquestioned.
Since joining Gor Mahia in the 2020/21 season, he scored an impressive 45 goals across his spells with the record champions, playing a key role in consecutive league titles and establishing himself as one of the most feared strikers in the league.
His rise from Kisumu Day, Western Stima to the national spotlight, combined with his physical presence and eye for goal have earned him a number of Harambee Stars call-ups.

His career abroad, however, has been a story of near-misses and unfinished business. A loan spell with Swedish third-tier side FC Linköping City in 2021 failed to produce a permanent deal, while a proposed move to Algerian club JS Saoura collapsed in 2023 due to paperwork delays.
Now back home, Omalla is expected to relaunch his career with Nairobi United, where he will also link up with his younger brother Duncan Omalla.
For the league newcomers, his signing would represent a major statement of intent as they eye to defend the FKF Cup while also pushing for a stronger finish in the CAF Confederations Cup Group Stage while for Omalla, it is a chance to reset, regain confidence and remind Kenyan football fans why he was once considered the country’s most lethal striker.
