Gor Mahia returned to the summit of the Sportpesa League on Sunday afternoon, delivering a clinical 3-0 win against Mara Sugar at the Nyayo National Stadium.
The win ensures the record champions leapfrog their perennial rivals, AFC Leopards, to sit first on the log by virtue of a superior goal difference.
Coming into the match with the pressure of Leopards’ late victory on Saturday, K’Ogalo showed no signs of nerves.

Despite missing key midfielder Enock Morrison due to suspension and Ben Stanley Omondi to injury, Charles Akonnor’s side dismantled the visitors.
Gor Mahia head coach Charles Akonnor made two changes to the squad that won against Murang’a Seal introducing Jackson Dwang for his first start of the season in midfield in place of Fidel Origa and Ebenezer Adukwaw in attack for Samuel Kapen.

Mara Sugar made three changes to the squad that drew against Police. Samuel Imbusia came in for David Omondi, Ainea Ndette replaced Dennis Cheruiyot as Nassor Shikokoti started at the heart of defence in Drona Langa’s spot.
The victory takes Gor Mahia to 33 points, level with AFC Leopards but ahead on goal difference.
For Mara Sugar, the defeat ends their impressive away run, leaving them in 13th place ahead of Round 18.
