Gor Mahia head coach Charles Akonnor credits SportPesa League Coach of the Month award to collective team effort

Gor Mahia head coach Charles Akonnor has been named the SportPesa League Coach of the Month for October 2025, winning the award for the first time.

Akonnor guided Gor Mahia to victory in all three of their matches against KCB, Posta Rangers and Mathare United in what is the first season in charge for the former Ghana national team coach.

The record Kenyan champions maintained a 100% streak in October after beating KCB 0-1 at Dandora Stadium, seeing off Posta Rangers 3-0 at Nyayo Stadium before wrapping the month with a 2-0 victory over Mathare United at the Moi International Sports Centre in Kasarani.

Akonnor fended off opposition from Tusker’s Charles Okere, AFC Leopards’ Fred Ambani and Patrick Odhiambo from Kakamega Homeboyz.

He received a customized SportPesa League Coach of the Month trophy and 75,000 shillings for emerging top.

It also makes it an October awards double for Gor Mahia after Shariff Musa claimed the SportPesa League Player of the Month award.

The introduction of the SportPesa League monthly awards come in the backdrop of a partnership with local data provider Tisini to avail insights meant improve the SportPesa League competitiveness.

Apart from the performance data for the shortlist, the award also allows the fans to vote for their favorite nominee, accounting for 20% of the final result.
