The national basketball champions, Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) kicked off the Women’s Basketball League Africa (WBLA 2025) on a high note with a comfortable 83–64 victory over Cameroon’s F.A.P Women on Friday evening at the Prince Abdallah Al Faisal Sports Hall in Egypt.
KPA returned to the continental stage earlier last month after clinching third place in the Zone Five qualifiers, where they narrowly overcame the Burundian Giants Les Hippos, edging them out 89–81 in a tournament hosted at Nyayo Stadium.
This marks KPA’s comeback to the continental arena after missing the 2024 edition, having previously earned bronze in 2023.

To bolster their technical bench for the competition, the Dockers enlisted Lebanese tactician Nabil Kabalan- currently assistant coach of the Libya National Team and Al Ahly Tripoli, as head coach for their WBLA campaign, succeeding Antony Ojukwu Oloo.
From the squad that competed in the Zone 5 qualifiers, KPA retained most of their core players but made two adjustments.
Nigeria’s Okoro Ifunaya and Senegal’s Aminata Ly, who have since secured professional contracts in Lebanon and Portugal respectively, were replaced by American guard Sara Dickey and American forward A’llexxus Johnson.
True to form, new signing Sara Dickey led the squad to its opening win, delivering 23 points, seven rebounds, and three assists.

Alima Doumbia followed closely, contributing 16 points, continuing her strong form from the qualifiers- alongside eight rebounds and seven assists.

For F.A.P, four of Tsafack Ange Majolie Lonteu’s players recorded double-doubles, led by Damaris Emedie with 17 points and 11 rebounds.
Nkem Akaraiwe followed with 13 points, while Keyla Kipo and Idumano Beggi finished with 11 and 10 points respectively.
KPA dominated the first three quarters, winning 23–15, 21–13, and 22–11, before F.A.P mounted a late rally in the final period, taking the quarter 25–17.
KPA now prepare for their second Group B match, where they will face First Bank Basketball Team on Sunday at the same venue.
