  • The game will now be officially played on 7 December 2025 at the Nyayo National Stadium.

The highly anticipated 98th Mashemeji Derby between longtime rivals Gor Mahia and AFC Leopards has officially been rescheduled, with the match now set to take place on Sunday 7 December 2025 at Nyayo Stadium.

Kick-off is confirmed for 3PM, marking another chapter in one of Kenya’s most historic and emotionally charged football fixtures in the SportPesa League.

The derby had initially been scheduled for 30 November 2025 at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani but logistical challenges forced a change in plans.

Why was the Mashemeji Derby date changed?

The national stadium was required to host Nairobi United’s CAF Confederation Cup Group Stage match against DR Congo’s AS Maniema Union on Sunday 30 November 2025 from 4PM.

According to CAF competition regulations, continental fixtures are prioritized over domestic matches when it comes to venue allocation. This meant that the Mashemeji Derby could not be accommodated at Kasarani on the original date.

Football Kenya Federation then announced a new date, moving the derby to Saturday 29 November 2025 and shifting the venue to Nyayo Stadium.

However, this adjustment was also short-lived. With World Aids Day approaching, State House had already secured Nyayo Stadium for the national commemoration event set for Monday 1 December 2025.

Preparations for the event were slated to begin as early as Friday 28 November 2025, making it impossible to host the derby on the newly proposed date.

After consultations between FKF, Sports Kenya and the involved clubs, Sunday 7 December 2025 was agreed upon as the most viable date, ensuring both teams have adequate time to prepare while also allowing organizers enough room to guarantee proper security and logistics for a fixture of such magnitude.

The Nyayo Stadium remains the confirmed venue.
