Ali optimistic ahead of Nairobi United vs Maniema Union clash

Despite the loss, Nairobi United displayed moments of resilience, and coach Salim Ali believes the experience against one of Africa’s most formidable teams has prepared his players for what lies ahead in the competition.

Speaking ahead of the match, Ali expressed optimism in his squad’s readiness, saying, “We played away and I believe we had a good outing against Wydad Casablanca, one of the best teams in the continent.

We might not have won, but the boys had a good fight, which I believe is a good motivation going into this match.”

Nairobi United will be boosted by the return of right-back Yusuf Mainge, who missed the trip to Casablanca. His absence was covered well by Prince Buregeya, but Mainge’s availability adds stability and experience to the backline.

However, the team will be without midfielder Brian Omondi, who received a red card in the match against Wydad Casablanca.

“Yusuf Mainge will be back so that’s also a positive even though in his absence Prince Buregeya did well.

We will be without Brian Omondi, but I believe it’s another chance for another player to show he can impress when given the chance. Others are well, and we have no injuries,” Ali said.

AS Maniema Union arrive in Nairobi with confidence after defeating Azam FC 2-0 at home in their opening group fixture.

Their head coach, Papy Komoto, dismissed the idea of Nairobi United being a relatively unknown side despite their debut in the competition.

“In the world where there’s technology, there’s no team that is relatively unknown. Them reaching this stage means they are a deserving side and my boys are ready for this match. We are going for a win,” Komoto stated.

A victory for Maniema Union would allow them to keep pace with Wydad Casablanca, who currently top the group with six points. This adds extra motivation for the Congolese side as they aim to strengthen their position in the group standings.

The match will be broadcast live on Azam’s ZBC and KBC Channel 1, giving fans across the region the chance to follow the action as Nairobi United chase their first points of the CAF Confederation Cup Group Stage.
