Four Gor Mahia players were involved in a road accident early Friday morning while heading for their scheduled training session.

The quartet: Austin Odhiambo, Fidel Origa, Joshua Onyango, and Felix Oluoch – were involved in an accident along Outering Road this morning en route to training; all four K’Ogalo players were treated for minor injuries at a nearby hospital and discharged.

The group was on its usual routine, driving to the club’s training grounds for their Friday session ahead of the 98th Mashemeji Derby.

The derby, one of the most anticipated fixtures in Kenyan football, is set to be played on Sunday 7 December 2025 at Nyayo Stadium from 4PM.

With such a crucial match ahead, the morning session was expected to be an important part of the team’s tactical and physical preparation.

A club source, who requested anonymity, detailed what transpired on the road, explaining that the accident was triggered by an unexpected mechanical failure.

The players were coming to training as usual because they come from the same area so they use one car and one of them was driving but the breaks broke and he couldn’t stop the car which led to them crushing but none has some serious injuries they are being treated at a local hospital and we hope they’ll be better,” said the source.

The vehicle reportedly veered off the road after the brake malfunction, leading to a crash that left the four players with minor injuries.

They were immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, where they received treatment and underwent further medical checks to rule out any internal complications. Thankfully, no serious or life-threatening injuries were reported.

In response to the incident, Gor Mahia cancelled today’s training session entirely.

The technical bench and club leadership agreed that the wellbeing of the players was the priority, and that the team would reconvene once there is full clarity on the condition of those involved in the accident.

The club is also yet to officially disclose the identities of the injured players, with an announcement expected after medical evaluations are completed.

The accident comes at a sensitive time for the league champions, who are preparing for a high-stakes derby against AFC Leopards.

Despite the setback, the club remains optimistic that the players will recover soon and rejoin the squad.
