Coach Charles Akonnor made several changes to his starting lineup, handing starts to Ben Stanley Omondi and Felix Oluoch, with captain Austine Odhiambo dropping to the bench.
On the other hand, Ulinzi Stars head coach Stephen Ocholla rewarded forward Boniface Muchiri with a starting spot following his fine form and goal in the previous outing.
Gor Mahia began the match on the front foot, showing early attacking intent. Their pressure paid off early when in the 6th minute, Felix Oluoch put them ahead with a clever backheel finish after being set up inside the box.
The goal ignited the home supporters, and Gor continued to dominate possession with Ben Stanley and Morrison dictating play in midfield.
However, Ulinzi Stars grew into the game and began creating chances of their own.
Their efforts paid off in the 34th minute when Boniface Muchiri finished off a quick counterattack with a composed strike past Byrne Omondi to level the scores at 1-1.
At halftime, Akonnor introduced captain Austine Odhiambo in place of Ben Stanley Omondi to add creativity in attack.
The skipper nearly made an instant impact, heading narrowly wide though the flag was already up for offside. Alpha Onyango later made way for Fidel Origa as Gor Mahia searched for a winner.
Ulinzi Stars also made tactical changes, with Enosh Ochieng being replaced by Paul Odhiambo in the 61st minute and Walter Wafula coming on for Peter Mwanyika ten minutes later.
Goalkeeper Timothy Odhiambo was called into action in the 73rd minute, pulling off a brilliant save to deny Shariff Musa, whose follow-up goal was disallowed for a foul on the keeper.
Both sides continued to push for a winner in the closing stages. Ulinzi’s Paul Odhiambo tested Byrne Omondi with a long-range effort, while Gor Mahia’s Reagan Otieno missed a golden opportunity in the dying minutes, slipping with only the goalkeeper to beat.
The draw marked Gor Mahia’s first of the season, ending their four-match winning streak. Ulinzi Stars, meanwhile, registered their third draw in six matches and will look to build on this performance.
Gor Mahia will next face defending champions Kenya Police at Nyayo Stadium, while Ulinzi Stars return home to host Shabana FC.
