Immediate former Shabana head coach Peter Okidi wins second SportPesa League Coach of the Month Award after February 2026 heroics

Shabana coach Peter Okidi has issued an apology to the club’s fans following their third consecutive home defeat at Gusii Stadium in the ongoing 25/26 SportPesa League campaign.

The Glamour Boys hosted AFC Leopards on Wednesday afternoon in the SportPesa League midweek clash hoping to bounce back from two consecutive home losses against Posta Rangers and Mathare United.

In the match, Shabana took an early lead through Austine Odongo, who headed home brilliantly to ignite hopes of a turnaround.

However, AFC Leopards fought back, with captain Victor Omune coming off the bench to level the scores before James Kinyanjui’s corner was deflected into the net, handing Ingwe a 2-1 victory in what was their first-ever win against Shabana since the Kisii-based side returned to the topflight.

Shabana coach issues apology to fans

Prior to that, Okidi, who guided Shabana to an impressive fifth-place finish last season, had started the new campaign on a bright note and even led the standings early in the season. However, things have since gone downhill with the three straight losses.

The poor run has seen the team slip out of the top five to 7th on the log, prompting the tactician to issue a heartfelt apology to the fans through his social media platforms.

“By acknowledging the frustrations and disappointment our fans have felt due to our recent poor run of results, we know we have let you down and for that, I apologize,” wrote Okidi.

“As the head coach, I take full responsibility for the team’s performance. Football has high and low moments, and this month has really been our low moment.

We believe we will rise to our high moments, which is winning. We are facing some challenges from injuries, but that’s no excuse for failing to get positive results. We are working hard to address these issues and improve our performance.

We deeply appreciate your continued support and understanding. We’re committed to making more efforts and getting back on track. Even a candle burns itself to give light sacrifice is the price of significance. Thank you, Shabana FC fans, for your passion and loyalty.”

Shabana currently sit on seven points from six games, having recorded two wins, one draw, and three losses.

The Kisii outfit will be eager to return to winning ways when they travel to face Kariobangi Sharks at Kasarani Stadium before another away clash against Ulinzi Stars at Ulinzi Sports Complex. They will then return home to host Nairobi United at Gusii Stadium.

Despite the recent setbacks, Okidi remains optimistic that his charges will rediscover their form and give their passionate supporters something to cheer about once again.
