Gor Mahia issue injury update

Gor Mahia head coach Charles Akonnor has provided an injury update on their current top scorer Ebenezer Adukwaw and new signing Lewis Bandi ahead of their match against Posta Rangers at the Nyayo National Stadium on Sunday evening.

Ghanaian international Adukwaw has hit the ground running at the record Kenyan champions, scoring two goals and providing one assist in the three games played so far to help Gor Mahia into fifth place on 6 points.

However, Bandi is yet to make an impression at his new side after picking injury while on duty with the Harambee Stars during the African Nations Championship (CHAN) 2024 co-hosted by Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania in August.

Speaking ahead of the game against the table-topping Rangers, Akonnor noted that both players will likely miss the game due to their respective injury problems.

“Bandi is taking time to get back on his feet,” Akonnor told SportPesa Blog.

“Adukwaw is getting better, but I am not too sure if he will play on Sunday. We believe that in the coming week he will be better so we do not want to risk.

We want to place the belief in every player so that if Adukwaw is not there, somebody else is there to replace him and do exactly as we want him to do,” Akonnor explained.

Adukwaw picked up a shoulder injury during the four-team ODM@20 football tournament held in Mombasa, where his solitary goal against Bandari sealed the title that came with a prize money of 1 million shillings.

In an earlier statement, Gor Mahia Team Doctor Brian Odongo confirmed that imaging tests had ruled out a fracture.

“Medical assessment and imaging confirmed a soft tissue injury to the shoulder region,” Dr. Odongo said.

“While the diagnosis rules out more severe damage like a fracture, the player’s recovery timeline remains uncertain. He is currently under medical management, with follow-up sessions planned to monitor his recovery and determine his readiness to return to play.”
