After a week-long suspension to honor the late former Kenyan Prime Minister Hon. Raila Amolo Odinga, the SportPesa League 2025/26 resumes on Friday, October 24, for its fifth match week.
Following the tribute to the long-serving Gor Mahia patron, league action returns with a standalone fixture as Mara Sugar hosts Bidco United at the Awendo Green Stadium in Kericho, with kick-off scheduled for 2:00 PM EAT.
Mara Sugar began the season poorly, held to a 0-0 draw by Kakamega Homeboyz before narrowly losing 1-0 to Nairobi United.
However, they managed to bounce back just before the October FIFA international break, securing a 2-1 victory over Ulinzi Stars at the Ulinzi Sports Complex.
In that match, David Omondi opened the scoring within the first five minutes. After Ibrahim Shambi’s equalizer, Omondi secured the win with a second-half goal, sealing the first three points of the season for Edward Maniah’s squad.
This result propelled them to 12th place on the log with four points.
Therefore, they will be looking to build on that momentum and extend their winning streak. A successful result with a good goal difference on Friday could see them parachute into the top four.
Nonetheless, it will not be an easy task, as they face a formidable Bidco United. The young fresh squad is eager to return to winning ways themselves.
The Anthony Akhulia-led side started the season strongly with back-to-back victories before stumbling in their third match.
Their campaign kicked off with a stunning 1-0 win over record champions Gor Mahia, before they handed Nairobi United their first-ever loss in the SportPesa League.
However, their third match was a blow, as they suffered a stunning 3-1 defeat to Kakamega Homeboyz.
Despite drawing first blood through Denni Murunga, Homeboyz mounted a comeback with goals from Oliver Majaka, a Kevin Ouma own goal, and a final strike from Henry Omollo.
Therefore, Akhulia’s charges will be seeking to return to form and clinch the three points.
A victory would boost their tally to nine points, potentially lifting them to second place on the log, just one point behind leaders Shabana.
