Harambee Starlets defender Ruth Ingosi and striker Violet Nanjala have called on Kenyan fans to turn up in large numbers and rally behind the national women’s team when they face The Gambia in the first leg of the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) final qualifying round.
The Starlets, who have been in residential training for over three weeks, are set to host the West African side on Friday before traveling for the return leg next week.

Speaking from the team’s training base at Kasarani Annex, both Ingosi and Nanjala expressed confidence in the squad’s readiness and urged fans to replicate the massive support that was seen during the CHAN tournament in support of the Harambee Stars.
Ingosi, one of the most experienced players in the squad, believes the team’s preparations have been thorough and that they are determined to start the campaign strongly.

We have been preparing for more than three weeks and we believe that with the sessions we’ve had, we will win on Friday,” said the Simba Queens defender.
The morale in camp is high, everyone is putting in the effort because we really need the win at home. The team is ready, and I urge fans to show up just like they did during CHAN for the boys. We hope for a win at home and then we will finish the job away.”
Violet Nanjala,echoed Ingosi’s sentiments, adding that the players are motivated by the chance to qualify for the continental showpiece.
We are ready for the match and I know we are going to win,” said Nanjala. “We are just two days away, finalizing our preparations. This is a big opportunity for many of us to feature in WAFCON.
It won’t be an easy match, but with the work we’ve put in, we will be up to the task. Everyone is ready on Friday we won’t fail the fans. Let them come in good numbers; with their support, we will get the much-needed win.”

Kenya will be aiming to secure a convincing home result to make their trip to Senegal, where the return leg will be hosted as The Gambia doesn’t have a CAF approved Stadium, more comfortable.
The Starlets are seeking to return to the continental stage for the first time since their debut appearance in 2016, and victory over The Gambia would bring them one step closer to that goal.
The match is scheduled for Friday,24th October,2025 at Nyayo National Stadium from 4PM
