SportPesa League

The SportPesa League Round 3 action delivered drama across the country as Shabana suffered their first defeat of the season while AFC Leopards’ search for a maiden victory continued.

With four matches played across different venues, this a wrap of all the action.

Pamzo Returns to Haunt Shabana at Gusii Stadium

At the Gusii Stadium, Shabana’s unbeaten start to the campaign came to an abrupt end after a 1-2 defeat to Posta Rangers masterminded by former coach Sammy “Pamzo” Omollo.

Both teams entered the fixture unbeaten and level on points at the top of the log, but Posta’s superior organization and clinical finishing made the difference on a tense afternoon in Kisii.

Shabana coach Peter Okidi was forced to tweak his starting lineup, with captain George “Dizzo” Onyango and key forward Brian Michira sidelined through injury, Mark Oduor and Douglas Mokaya stepping in for the Glamour Boys.

The hosts started brightly, pressing high and creating early chances. Erick Otieno came closest in the 27th minute but blazed his effort over the bar. Posta almost hit back three minutes later when Faustine’s long pass found Leon, whose cross rattled the woodwork.

Shabana were dealt a blow in the 39th minute as Oduor limped off injured, replaced by Humphrey Obino.

Just before halftime, Posta struck the opener through a well-worked set-piece. Musa’s header was flicked home by Marita in the 44th minute to silence the home supporters.

After the break, Shabana poured forward in search of an equalizer. Ezekiel Omuri’s low shot narrowly missed the post early in the second half, while their best chance came in the 62nd minute from the penalty spot.

However, former Shabana goalkeeper Fredrick Odhiambo produced a fine save to preserve Posta’s lead.

The mailmen doubled their advantage in the 76th minute through Trevor Omondi, finishing off a swift counterattack.

Although Victor Omondi pulled one back deep into stoppage time, Posta Rangers held on for a 2–1 win, maintaining their unbeaten run and dethroning Shabana at the summit.

AFC Leopards still searching for first SportPesa League win

At Kasarani Stadium, AFC Leopards’ struggles in front of goal continued as they were held to a goalless draw by Bandari FC.

Leopards began on the front foot, creating several early openings. Tyson Otieno came close after connecting with Samuel Sseeyonjo’s cross but failed to convert, while Sseeyonjo himself narrowly missed the target moments later.

Bandari gradually grew into the game, with William Wadri forcing a fine save from Leopards’ goalkeeper Alain Ngeleka. David Sakwa’s long-range effort was also blocked as both sides exchanged attacks in an evenly balanced first half.

After the break, Kelly Madada almost gave Leopards the lead, breaking through midfield but dragging his effort wide. Bandari responded through Amza Ngamchia, who tormented the Leopards’ backline but couldn’t find the target.

Substitute Hassan Beja nearly made an instant impact for Leopards, but his weak shot was comfortably saved. Clifford Otieno came close for Bandari late on with a thunderous strike that whistled past the post, ensuring the game ended 0–0.

The draw extended AFC Leopards’ winless start to three matches, leaving coach Fred Ambani with plenty to ponder as pressure continues to mount.

Murang’a Seal’s Francis Memusi struck late to halve the deficit, but Sofapaka held firm to secure a much-needed three points and a confidence-boosting result.

Homeboyz overpower Bidco in Bukhungu thriller

In Kakamega, Kakamega Homeboyz produced a spirited second-half performance to come from behind and beat Bidco United 3–1 at Bukhungu Stadium.

Bidco drew first blood through Dennis Murunga’s clever backheel finish on the half-hour mark. However, Homeboyz responded swiftly, with former Bidco man Henry Omollo unleashing a thunderbolt to equalize three minutes later.

After the restart, the hosts took charge of proceedings. Their relentless pressure forced defender Kevin Ouma to put the ball into his own net in the 64th minute, handing Homeboyz the lead.

Substitute Oliver Majaka then sealed the victory with a curling effort in the dying minutes after a clever dummy from Derrick Otanga.

The result marked Homeboyz’s second win of the season and ended Bidco’s unbeaten start.
