The Nakuru-born match official takes up the role after replacing Mohamed Abdullah Ibrahim, who was suspended following controversial decisions during the recent Libya vs Cape Verde FIFA World Cup Qualifier where he incorrectly ruled out a legitimate goal for offside.
Yiembe’s appointment is a testament to his impressive rise through the ranks of African officiating. Over the years, he has earned a reputation for consistency, professionalism, and calmness under pressure, qualities that have seen him entrusted with some of the continent’s biggest football assignments.
The experienced referee has previously officiated at the 2024 Olympic Games in France and was part of the team that handled the CAF Champions League semi-final between Mamelodi Sundowns and Al Ahly.

He also made history by taking part in the FIFA Club World Cup hosted in the United States, where he served as the second assistant referee in the clash between Inter Milan and Urawa Red Diamonds.
Additionally, he was among the match officials in the group-stage encounter between Real Madrid and RB Leipzig, arguably his most prestigious assignment in an officiating career spanning over a decade.
2025 CAF Super Cup
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has confirmed that this year’s TotalEnergies CAF Super Cup will be held in Cairo for the first time since 2014.
The fixture will see Pyramids FC make their debut appearance in the competition, while RS Berkane will be eyeing their second Super Cup title, having previously won the crown in 2022.
The annual one-off encounter pits the winners of Africa’s two premier interclub competitions the CAF Champions League and the CAF Confederation Cup against each other. The winner of the 2025 edition will receive USD 500,000, with the runner-up pocketing USD 250,000.
Last year’s edition saw Zamalek FC lift the trophy in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, after defeating fellow Egyptian giants Al Ahly.
Yiembe’s selection for this year’s final once again highlights Kenya’s growing reputation in continental refereeing, with his consistent performances putting him among Africa’s most trusted officials.
