- Shujaa defeated Shogun Rugby 14-7 to retain the Safari 7s title for an impressive fourth consecutive year.
- Kenya Lionesses stunned Uganda Lady Cranes 14-10 to reclaim the championship last won in 2021.
- Kenya Morans finished third for the second consecutive year, while Samuel Asati was named MVP once again.
The Safari 7s 2025 concluded on a triumphant note this past Sunday, October 12, as Kenya’s national teams, Shujaa and the Lionesses, were crowned champions in a thrilling three-day tournament at the Nyayo National Stadium – a feat last accomplished in 2021.
Led by Kevin ‘Bling’ Wambua, Shujaa navigated the tournament unbeaten from the group stages to the finals, setting up a finals clash with Shogun Rugby for the third year running (2023, 2024, and now 2025).
In a hard-fought battle, Shujaa once again prevailed, securing a 14-7 victory to claim a historic fourth consecutive Safari Sevens title.
All thanks to the decisive tries from Floyd Wabwire and Nygel Amaitsa that sealed the win for Shujaa.

The victory was clinched in the dying moments by a moment of brilliance from the KCB speedster, Wabwire, who came off the bench for a clever run through Shogun’s defense, finishing a superb offload from Vincent Onyala.
The youngster, who looks up to Onyala at their club, added the crucial seven points to Amaitsa’s first-half score, securing the hard-earned win.

Asati’s masterclass earns MVP honors
Though Wabwire and Amaitsa shone in the final, credit is also due to scrum-half and co-captain Samuel Asati, who delivered an exceptional performance throughout the tournament.
The KCB playmaker was the creative engine behind Shujaa’s dominance and was deservedly crowned the Most Valuable Player of the Safari 7s 2025 – an honor he also received back in 2024, proving his remarkable consistency.
While no Shujaa player topped the individual points or tries charts, the squad will take valuable lessons from this tournament, using it as a stepping stone for the upcoming HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series 2026, where they will compete in the second division.
Kenya Lionesses reclaim title courtesy of Janet Okello

Meanwhile, the Kenya Lionesses capped off the tournament by reclaiming the women’s title in a narrow 14-10 victory over neighbors Uganda.
This East African derby saw the Lionesses win the championship they last held in 2021, avenging losses to the Uganda Lady Cranes in 2023 and Costa Blanca in 2024.

After the Ugandan men’s team struggled to make the quarterfinals, the Lady Cranes were determined to bring joy to their nation, initially taking the lead and controlling the game.
However, the final’s Most Valuable Player, Janet Okello, made the difference with a decisive try, ensuring Coach Simon Odongo’s squad clinched the title on home soil at the same venue where they last triumphed in 2021.
Kenya Morans secure a successful bronze medal

While the two main national teams celebrated, Kenya’s second men’s national team, the Kenya Morans, comprising young and debutant players, also enjoyed a successful campaign.
For the second year running, they secured a third-place finish, taking home the bronze medal.
Featuring a mix of promising young talent and debutants, the side overcame Zimbabwe with a convincing 19-0 win in the bronze playoff.
Tries from John Okoth (2) and Brian Mutua sealed the win, showcasing the squad’s potential ahead of the new sevens season. Like Shujaa and the Lionesses, the Morans used the tournament as a platform to sharpen their skills for the global stage.
