Ryan Ogam to work under new coach

Harambee Stars striker Ryan Ogam will now be under a new head coach at his Austrian club Wolfsberger AC following the appointment of former Austrian international Peter Pacult.

The announcement comes just days after the club parted ways with Dietmar Kühbauer who had been at the helm since 2023.

The 65-year-old Pacult, a Vienna native, brings vast experience to Wolfsberger. During his playing career, Pacult won two Austrian Championship titles and two Austrian Cups before transitioning into coaching.

He has managed several clubs across Europe with his previous coaching stints including SK Rapid Wien whom he guided to the Austrian Bundesliga title in the 2007/08.

He has also had roles with TSV 1860 Munich, FC Dynamo Dresden and RB Leipzig in Germany. He has also managed clubs in Slovenia, Croatia, Serbia, and Albania.

Pacult’s appointment marks his third coaching spell in Carinthia, having previously managed FC Kärnten (2004–2005) and SK Austria Klagenfurt (2021–2025), where he notably achieved promotion to the Bundesliga.

He joins Wolfsberger AC on a contract running until the end of the season, with an option for an additional year.

Club president Dietmar Riegler expressed confidence in the new appointment, saying, “Following the surprising departure of Dietmar Kühbauer, an intensive search for a new head coach has been underway in recent days.

In my opinion, the current situation calls for an experienced coach who is familiar with the Austrian Bundesliga. Therefore, we are very pleased to have found a new coach in Peter Pacult who fully meets this profile.”

Pacult will officially begin his duties on Tuesday with his first training session at the club’s training ground. Beforehand, Wolfsberger AC will hold a press conference where Pacult will be introduced to the media alongside the club president.

Speaking after his unveiling, Pacult expressed his enthusiasm for the challenge ahead:

“I’m really looking forward to my new role at Wolfsberger AC, and I’d like to thank the president for his trust in me. I cannot wait to get to know the team better and start working on the pitch.”

For Ogam, the appointment brings a fresh start under a vastly experienced manager. Ogam, who recently joined Wolfsberger AC from SportPesa League side Tusker FC, made his debut last week, coming off the bench in the club’s 3-1 win over Grazer AK in the Austrian Bundesliga.

The victory lifted Wolfsberger AC to within a point of the league leaders after nine rounds.

As the team prepares to resume action after the FIFA international break, they will face Ried at home before traveling to meet SK Sturm Graz, the current table-toppers.

With a new coach and a strong start to the season, Ogam and his teammates will be hoping to maintain their momentum and continue their impressive form in the title race.
