Tusker FC coach Okere banks on belief to overcome rocky start to the season
  • Tusker FC coach Charles Okere is banking on belief and positivity to deliver good results in the SportPesa League this season.
  • Tusker is yet to register a win in their opening three matches, having suffered back-to-back defeats to KCB and Posta Rangers, followed by a goalless draw against Mathare United.
  • Their next assignment is against Shabana FC this Sunday at Kasarani Stadium.

Tusker FC coach Charles Okere has expressed confidence in his team’s ability to turn their season around, emphasizing belief and positivity as key pillars in their 2025/26 SportPesa League campaign.

The Brewers have had a sluggish start to the season, remaining winless in their first three matches.

They began their quest for a record 13th top-flight title with a 2-0 defeat to KCB, followed by a 2-1 loss to Posta Rangers. Their most recent fixture, a midweek clash against Mathare United at Dandora Stadium, ended in a goalless draw.

Okere content with a draw against Mathare United

Despite failing to secure maximum points, Okere took solace in the stalemate against Mathare United, describing it as a significant step forward after back-to-back defeats.

“Today’s match had a lot of positives,” Okere told the club’s media. “We showed energy and intent as a unit. Coming from two straight losses and then managing to earn a point against a very tactical side this is definitely progress.”

He added, “Had we lost today, the morale of the players might have dipped. But getting that point is a boost. The players followed the tactical plan, and I believe that if we were more clinical in front of goal, we could be having a very different conversation.”

Tusker to work on their final third clinicality

Looking ahead, Tusker will face a stern test as they host an in-form Shabana FC at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani, this Sunday, October 5 at 4:00 PM.

Shabana remain unbeaten so far this season, and Okere knows his side must sharpen their edge in the final third.

“We’re going to focus on our finishing. We don’t need ten chances to win a game – we need to make the few opportunities count. It’s all about converting and then controlling the tempo. The rest will fall into place,” he remarked.

Tusker’s only goal in three matches came from Eric Kapaito in their loss to Posta Rangers, highlighting the team’s need for greater composure in front of goal.

Despite the underwhelming start, Okere, who led the Ruaraka-based club to a fourth-place finish last season, remains steadfast in his conviction that belief will be the catalyst for success.

“This season is all about belief,” He said.  “I have faith in the tenacity of the players and their individual quality. When we work in unison, we are building something strong for the future. Therefore, we will just keep believing, and I know it will happen. With belief and a positive attitude, everything will fall into place as planned.”
