The visit by FIFA President Gianni Infantino to Kenya has yielded a lot of benefits to the local football industry. Infantino, who held discussions with Kenya’s head of state William Ruto on Saturday, August 30, 2025, announced that FIFA will invest USD 4.6 million (approximately Ksh 595,000,000 as per the current exchange rate) in the new Football Kenya Federation (FKF) technical centre that will be constructed in Machakos County. This landmark move signals a new dawn for Kenyan football.

Infantino explains how the new technical centre will benefit Kenyan football
The FIFA President has described the project that is one of its kind in the region as a beacon of inspiration to upcoming Kenyan footballers.
“I was honoured to be welcomed by the President of Kenya William Ruto today, to discuss our beautiful game and also receive the deeds to the land on which the future of Kenyan football will be built. The new technical centre in Machakos will be a hub for the national teams of today as a fit-for-purpose facility to prepare for international matches and tournaments.
But it is also a beacon of hope and inspiration for the Kenyan footballers of tomorrow, who can aspire to find themselves there in years to come,” read part of his statement.

Infantino, who went to the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani Stadium to watch the Madagascar vs Morocco CHAN final after the meeting, ended by thanking President Ruto for creating a conducive environment for Kenyan football to thrive.
As stated by him, he is confident that the upcoming project will greatly improve football in the country.
“I want to thank President William Ruto, who shares a great passion for football, and his government for gifting the site to FIFA and the Football Kenya Federation. I have every faith that FKF President Hussein Mohammed and his team will give this exciting project all their passion and effort.
With the support of FIFA, as well as the guidance of CAF, led by President Patrice Motsepe, we will ensure Kenyan football takes a big step forward,” he ended.

Key details of the FIFA-funded project
The multi-million project, which is funded by FIFA Forward, will be constructed in a 20-acre piece of land in Machakos County.
It will have a total of three football pitches. Two of those pitches will be artificial ones. There will also be a natural grass pitch.

In addition, the facility will have a modern administration building as well as conference rooms.
Should everything go according to the plan, Kenya is expected to become a football powerhouse in the region. With better leadership, the FKF will be able to discover the numerous talents available in the country and help them fulfil their potentials.
